Nurse expanding homeopathic screening business

As a nurse, Edna Hurst was planning to spend her life helping others with her medical skills. But last year, she found a different way to help.

Hurst began Computerized Electrodermal Screening, a modern homeopathic technique, at 193 S. Washington St. in the beginning of 1997. Since that time, business has been so good that Hurst is moving to 191 S. Washington St.

''I started my own business because it works,'' Hurst said. ''It's just part of the puzzle. There are so many times when in medicine you treat the symptoms, but that didn't help me.''

Many of Hurst's clients are those people suffering from chronic aches and pains which have not been alleviated with medical treatment.

Hurst uses a computer to detect ''energy meridians'' in the body. With the help of the computer, she is able to measure resistance at certain points in the body.

''It helps us to understand why we have certain symptoms or a disease. If you are unbalanced, by becoming balanced, you can correct whatever problem your having,'' she said.

Hurst entered the field after she became extremely ill.

''I passed out and I went to the hospital. They kept me overnight and tested me. I missed three months of work because I would sleep 20 hours a day,'' she said.

Finally, out of desperation, Hurst went to a specialist in Columbus.

''Somebody told me about Dr. Jones in Columbus. I went there and she told me I had a yeast infection, a low thyroid, a sleep disorder and a problem with my adrenals. It was this piece that directed all of my other therapies. I don't think I would have gotten better as quickly if I would not have done that,'' she said.

Within a few months, Hurst was healed and had found a new interest.

''I was so impressed by it that I went to school to learn how to do it. I feel like it's just a part of the process,'' she said.

Hurst is to host an open house 4:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Friday.

The new site is to offer more space and allow three massage therapists also to be housed in the same building.

For more information, call 443-8833 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
