July 27, 2001 Tiffin man found guilty of vehicular manslaughter By Ryan Good After a three-day trial-by-jury, a Tiffin man was found guilty Thursday in Tiffin Municipal Court of three counts of vehicular manslaughter. The jury spent six hours in deliberation over two days before they convicted Neil L. Jordan, 49, 303 W. CR 52, of causing the deaths of Daniel P. Shaver, Lisa Johnson, and their unborn baby in a Jan. 21 accident on US 224 and CR 113 in Hopewell Township, court reports show. Jordan pleaded innocent to the charges in May. A hearing on whether the prosecution presented enough evidence -- called a rule 29 hearing -- is set for Aug. 7. If Judge Fred Daniel Jr. decides that there was enough evidence presented for the conviction to stand, Jordan will be sentenced at a later date. If the conviction stands, Jordan faces a maximum of 270 days in jail, up to $2,250 in fines and driver's license suspension of up to six years. Jordan was southbound on TR 113 when he ran the stop sign at US 224, striking the westbound car that Johnson and Shaver were in, said City Prosecutor Martin Koop.
