Automatic door provides easier access to center

SYCAMORE &endash; Thanks to The First National Bank of Sycamore, citizens who frequent the Mohawk 60 Plus senior center are finding it easier to enter.

"When the building was first completed, it had a nice heavy door, but the people were having problems opening the heavy door," Jerry Everhart, executive director of Wyandot County Council on Aging, said.

So Everhart became the liaison between the center and the bank's president, Dean Keller.

"We wanted to do something for the center and decided to purchase an automatic door opener," Keller said.

Now with just a touch of the button, or when the sensor is activated, the heavy door automatically opens for the senior citizens to enter the cheery setting. The 50-person facility, which opened last December, usually accommodates 22 Sycamore residents for lunch, including those who are homebound.

"I think it will be great. I know we will really appreciate it, especially the women who are weaker," Betty Bacon, president of the Mohawk 60 Plus Club, said.

Secretary/treasurer Peg Aller added, "I don't need it yet, but don't know when I might."
