Gerald C. Kessler
Atlas retiree

Gerald C. "Jerry" Kessler, 59, of N. Countyline Street, Fostoria, died at 3:25 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

Mr. Kessler was born Jan. 26, 1942, in Amsden to Charles J. and Hazel B. (Williams) Kessler, Sr. He married Karen Sue Bentz on July 13, 1963, in New Riegel. They are divorced.

Survivors include: a son, Brian of Carey; two daughters, Mrs. Jason (Laura) Walters of Cincinnati, and Mrs. James (Kristine) Wise of Tiffin; five grandchildren; two brothers, George J. of Republic, and Raymond A. of New Riegel; and three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Martha T.) Haubert of Alvada, Rita M. Lafontaine and Annabelle M. Hemminger, both of New Riegel.

Deceased are: his parents, two brothers, Richard A. and Charles J. Jr.; and an infant sister, Norma Jean Kessler.

He was a 1960 graduate of New Riegel High School; retired from Atlas, Inc., Fostoria, after 30 years; member of Fostoria Council #1197, Knights of Columbus Third Degree, Fostoria Eagles Club Aerie #430, Fostoria United Sportsman Club, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #872 New Riegel, AMVETS Post #69 of Fostoria, and social member of American Legion Post #840 and VFW Post #421 both of Fostoria.

A Rosary will be recited at 9:40 a.m. Monday in the St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, with the mass of Christian Burial following at 10 a.m. The Father Leonard Kistler C.PP.S. will officiate; and burial will be in St. Boniface Parish Cemetery, New Riegel, where the United Veterans of Fostoria will conduct graveside military honors..

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Richmond "Clayton" Combs
Retired Ford Motor inspector

Richmond "Clayton" Combs, 71, of 8501 CH 16, McCutchenville, died at 6:58 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Upper Sandusky.

He was born to Richmond and Virgie (Puckett) Combs on Feb. 9, 1930, in Salyerville, Ky. He married Fannie Manns. She is deceased. He then married Lorene (Bolen) Johnson on Sept. 4, 1997, and she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Tommy R. Combs and James Combs, both of Willard; four stepsons, Winton Johnson of Lexington, Jeff Johnson of Sycamore, Greg Johnson of McCutchenville, and Chuck Johnson of Upper Sandusky; a stepdaughter, Ms. Sheila Biller of Old Fort; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five brothers, Chester Basham and Charles Basham both of Salyerville, Ky., Joe Basham of Pikeville, Ky., Adrian Basham of River Rouge, Mich., and Ludas Basham of Middletown; and two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Howard and Mrs. Pamela Risner, both of Salyerville, Ky.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict; attended Our Masters Chapel in Benton; was an employee at Johnson's Bait, McCutchenville; retired as an inspector at Ford Motor Company in Sandusky after serving 30 years; an avid bass fisherman and loved the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cleveland Indians.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore, with burial in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Sycamore, where a military graveside service will be conducted by Sycamore American Legion Post #250.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Debra D. Kimbler
Nursing Home housekeeper

Debra D. Kimbler, 38, of 16277 Twp. Hwy. 27, Carey, died at 11:52 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in a traffic accident at the intersection of St. Hwy. 15 and Twp. Hwy. 198 in Hancock County.

She was born Aug. 4, 1962, in Marion to Ray V. and Betty L. (King) Kimbler. She married Allen Barry, Jr. and they divorced. She then married John W. Coe and they divorced.

Survivors include: her parents of Carey; a son, Jeremy A. Barry of Carey; a companion, Timothy Billock; a brother, Donald Kimbler of Carey; and four sisters, Mrs. Richard (Vicky) Jesko of Carey, Mrs. Steven (Kimberlee) Fredritz of Wharton, Mrs. Ronald (Barbara) Uhls, Jr. of Seymour, Ind., and Mrs. Jayson (Misty) Walters of Findlay.

She graduated in 1980 from Carey High School; was employed in the housekeeping department at Wyandot County Nursing Home in Upper Sandusky for the past 16 years; of the Protestant faith; and enjoyed listening to music and dancing.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Carey First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Layne officiating, and burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.

Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Sunday at the Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Harriet E. Martig
Upper Sandusky resident

Harriet E. Martig, 90, formerly of 680 Mission Dr., Upper Sandusky, died at 12:15 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, in the Wyandot County Nursing Home, Upper Sandusky, where she had resided since January of 1997.

She was born to William F. and Sarah Mae (Brown) Honsberger on March 19, 1911, in Wyandot County. She married C.H. Miller and he survives. She later married Floyd A. Martig and he died April 21, 1993.

Survivors include: two sons, David L. Miller of Upper Sandusky, and Allen Martig of Columbia, S.C.; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Romich, Mrs. Paul (Rosemarie) Amos and Barbara Martig, all of Upper Sandusky; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Frederick (Mildred) Young of Upper Sandusky.

Also deceased are a grandchild and a sister, Dorothy Disher.

Mrs. Martig was a 1928 graduate of Eden Centralized School; attended Tiffin Business School; a secretary and bookkeeper for the former Kuenzli Quarry for 50 years; a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 38 years; was church organist; enjoyed crocheting, playing Hide the Thimble with her grandchildren and making afghans for family members.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bringman Clark and Co. Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Kenneth Wessler officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Kelly C. Gardner
Meat cutter

Kelly C. Gardner, 51, of Norris Drive, Clyde, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, at his residence.

He was born Sept. 28, 1949, in California, to Duke and Marie (Portius) Gardner. He married Caren Colvin Ebersole on Aug. 4, 1979, and she survives.

Other survivors include: his mother of Alabama; a stepson, Michael Ebersole of Clyde; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Steven (Lisa) Grillasca of Texas; three grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Gardner of Massachusetts, and Alan Gardner of Delaware; and a sister, Mary Knight of Alabama.

His father and a brother, Dyke Gardner, are deceased.

He was educated in New Hampshire; in the U.S. Army from August of 1970 through December of 1987; was a meat cutter for Routh Packing of Sandusky for five years; associated with the First United Methodist Church of Clyde; member of Monticello Lodge #244, F&AM of Clyde, Clyde Eagles, Clyde VFW, and a life member of the DAV.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, with the Rev. John Bailey officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens where military graveside services will be provided by the Clyde American Legion and Clyde VFW.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home where Masonic services will be at 6:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Sycamore resident

Helen V. Smith, 90, of 209 W. Saffel Ave., Sycamore, died at 6:53 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2001, in Fairhaven Community, Upper Sandusky.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Walton-Moore Funeral Home, Sycamore.
