Wendell Smith
Former Bettsville mayor
Wendell Smith, 72, of 117 State St., Bettsville, died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in Toledo Hospital. He was born Aug. 2, 1928, to Ralph and Pauline (Siegrist) Smith. On March 13, 1950, he married Betty Shriver, and she survives.
Other survivors include: four daughters, Brenda Gamertsfelder and Starr Lanning, both of Bettsville, Wendy Eakin of Fremont and Heidi Hunt of Vermillion; three brothers, Ralph Smith and JoAllen Smith, both of Tiffin, and Donald Smith of Perrysburg; a sister, Betty Deason of Tiffin; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild.
Deceased is a brother, Jim Smith.
Mr. Smith retired after 38 years from C. E. Basic Co., and was a former mayor of Bettsville. His memberships included Tiffin Lodge 77 Free and Accepted Masons and the Basic Quarter Century Club. He was also an avid sprint car racer, golfer and bowler.
The Rev. Randy Correll will officiate the 10 a.m. Saturday funeral service at the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville. Burial will be at Pleasant Union Cemetery of Old Fort.
Visitation hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Dialysis Partners of Northwest Ohio or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Marla A. Kline
Allied Auto Corp. retiree
Marla A. Kline, 64, of Risingsun, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Independence House in Fostoria.
She was born Aug. 5, 1936, in Bradner, to Clarence M. and M. Irene (Stahl) Cox. She survives and he is deceased. On March 23, 1956, she married Nolan M. Kline at Scott-Trinity United Methodist Church near Risingsun, and he survives.
Survivors also include: three sons, Gregory N. and Jonathan L. Kline, both of Risingsun, and Jeffrey P. Kline of Richmond Heights; three daughters, Jennifer L. Kessler of Helena, Jo Ellen Jacquot of Risingsun, and Mrs. David (Lori A.) Bankey of Cleburne, Texas; a brother, James Cox of Risingsun; a sister, Bonnie Thaxton of Fostoria, and seven grandchildren.
Mrs. Kline graduated in 1954 from Risingsun High School. She retired from Allied Automotive Corp. in December 1992, after 30 years. She was a member of the Scott-Trinity United Methodist Church and the Risingsun Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary.
Services will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home in Fostoria with the Rev. Gus Christo-Baker officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, Scott Township, near Risingsun.
Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
