Aaron E. Doty
Aaron E. Doty, 73, 5 Lincoln Road, Tiffin, died Wednesday Oct. 10, 2001, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, Ohio.
He was born Dec. 11, 1927, in Franklin, Ohio, to the late Aaron Robert and Victoria M. (Robinson) Doty. His wife, Gloria Helen (Vann) Doty, whom he married March 19, 1951, in Franklin, Ohio, survives.
Other survivors include: a son, David A. Doty of Troy, Ohio; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Kimberly A.) Van Kirk of Troy, Ohio and Cynthia S. Puterbaugh of Loveland, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. William (Judith) Banks of Franklin, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and seven grandchildren, Haylie, Ross and Chelsie Puterbaugh; Seth and Katie Van Kirk and Lindsay and J. D. Doty.
Mr. Doty, a 1946 Franklin High School graduate, retired from Armco Steel of Middletown, Ohio after 30 years. Then worked for Basic Refractories and Wyandot Dolomite in Carey, Ohio.
A member of the Church of the Bretheran in Covington, Ohio, he attended the First Christian Church in Tiffin, Ohio. His other memberships included: past president of Tiffin Lions Club; Elks Tiffin Lodge 94; Tiffin Chapter Order of Eastern Star 189; the American Legion A.B. Cole Post 0080 of Covington, Ohio; past school board member of Covington High School; Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels; Tiffin Masonic Lodge 77; Tiffin Shrine Club; Masonic Lodge-Covington; Past Patron of Eastern Star Order 275-Covington, Ohio; Zenobia Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Toledo, Ohio; Ohio Grand Council-Order of High Priesthood; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter Consistory-Valley of Toledo and Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of the State of Ohio.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday Oct. 15, in Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home in Covington, Ohio,. Burial will be in Miami Memory Gardens, where military graveside services will be conducted.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, Tiffin, Ohio with Masonic services at 7 p.m. followed by a 7:30 p.m. Tiffin Lions Club members visitation.
Visitation will also be 4-8 p.m. Sunday in the Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home in Covington, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Shrine Burn Hospitals.
Dr. Donald F. Smith
Dr. Donald F. Smith, 79, of 1230 Westmoor Drive, Galion, Ohio, died at 3:42 a.m. Wednesday Oct. 10, 2001, in the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio, of complications following heart surgery.
He was born Jan. 26, 1922, on a homestead farm in Lykens Township, Crawford County, Ohio, to the late Alfred and Ida (Schimpf) Smith. On April 20, 1946, he married Mildred A. (Vowels) Smith. She survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters and sons-in law: Donna and Jim Alexander of St. Louis, MO and Deb and Fred Spurck of Tiffin, Ohio; two grandchildren, Terri Hawley and Nick Spurck; three great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Virginia Smith; a niece, Dixie Stineman and a great nephew, Dirk Stineman, all of Bucyrus/ Holmes Liberty, Ohio
A brother, Wayne Smith also is deceased.
Dr. Smith, a 1940 Lykens High School graduate and a 1952 graduate of Ohio State University School of Optometry, was a Galion optometrist from 1952 until his retirement in 1990. He also was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday Oct. 13, in the Richardson-Davis Funeral Home, Galion, Ohio.
Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Friday Oct. 12, in the Richardson-Davis Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Seneca County, 925 Water St., Tiffin, OH 44883 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
Wilma A. Anderson
Wilma A. Anderson, 70, of Two Rivers, Wisc., died Friday afternoon, Oct. 5, 2001 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.
She was born June 27, 1931, in Burgoon, to the late Charles R. and Nora A. (Matter) Barr. She married Charles H. Anderson on June 28, 1952, in Tiffin and he survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, Charles Jr. Anderson of Silverdale, Wash., and James Anderson of Two Rivers, Wisc., four daughters, Mrs. Roger (Phyllis) Bunke of Milwaukee, Wisc., Patricia Anderson of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. John (Barbara) Kay of Elgin, Ill., and Mrs. John (Kathleen) Withers of Hillsboro, Wisc., 10 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Gordon (Doris) Knaack of Madison, Wisc., and Mrs. Lloyd (Velma) Kiesel of Tiffin.
Services took place on Oct. 9 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Two Rivers, Wisc., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial and cremation.
The Klein and Stangel Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Dorothy J. Gabel
Dorothy "Jean" J. Gabel, 80, formerly of Fremont, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at St. Francis in Green Springs.
She was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Fremont to the late Cyril and Florence (Abbot) Phelps. She married Clayton A. Gabel on May 12, 1952, in Bowling Green. He is deceased.
Survivors include: three daughters, Judy Dohanos and Roxanne Gabel, both of Fremont, and Cherry Roosen of Walbridge; and two grandchildren.
Services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Chapel in Green Springs. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services on Saturday at Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home in Fremont.
Betty J. Cooner
Betty J. Cooner, 81, of Clyde, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, in Fremont Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 9, 1920, in Ashland, to the late Albert and Velma (Hagan) Depler. She married Lloyd Cooner on July 10, 1937. He died March 3, 1994.
Survivors include: two sons, David Cooner of Elyria, and Jeffrey Cooner of Clyde; and two daughters, Mrs. David (Nancy) Salyer of Avilla, Ind., and Mrs. David (Cheryl) Burdette of Clyde.
Graveside services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at McPherson Cemetery in Clyde.
There will be no visitations.
Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home in Clyde is in charge of arrangements.
Ellen Lang
Ellen Lang, 69, of Bascom died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 13, 1932, in Morehead, Ky., to the late Roscoe and Lula (Howard) Atkins. She married Raymond Land on June 30, 1951, in Carey. He died Dec. 5, 2000.
Survivors include: three sons, Bruce R. Lang of Tiffin, Mark A. Lang of Fostoria, and Christopher L. Lang of Bascom; a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Suzette) Baker of Fostoria; three brothers, Avery Atkins of Pomplin, Va., Edgar Atkins of Crawford, and Goble Atkins of Nevada; a sister, Marie Murphy of Carey; and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bascom. Father Art Niewiadoski will be the officiant. Burial will be in Sand Ridge Cemetery in Bascom.
Visitation is private.
Harrold-Floriana Funeral in Fostoria is in charge of arrangements.
Rollin Holskey
Rollin "Dutch" Holskey, 81, of Clyde, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, in the Bellevue Care Center, Bellevue.
He was born April 29, 1921, in Coshocton, Ohio, to the late Paul and Maggie (McCall) Holskey.
Survivors include: a son, Wayne G. Holskey of Tiffin; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Holskey was a World War II veteran.
Services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mitchell-Auxter
Funeral Home in Clyde. Military graveside services will be provided by Clyde VFW and Clyde American Legion. Burial will be in Bakertown Cemetery in Clyde.
Visitation will be from noon until services at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Arthur J. Taber
Arthur J. Taber, 78, of Flat Rock, Ohio, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Flat Rock, to the late Arthur J. Sr. and Goldie (Croxton) Taber. He married Regina M. Cudnik on Nov. 29, 1945, and she survives.
Survivors also include: a son, Boyd Taber of Sandusky; a daughter, Mrs. Max (Betty) Sanchez of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a sister, Iola Palmison of Castalia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Taber was a World War II veteran having served from 1942-1945 including 31 months in the Pacific.
Services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Auxter Funeral Home in Bellevue, with the Rev. Bruce Kent presiding. Military graveside services will be conducted by two Marine units at Bellevue Cemetery.
Visitation is 2-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family present from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. VFW services will be provided at 7 p.m. by the department officers.
Ray L. Smith
Ray L. Smith, 81, of Upper Sandusky, died Monday morning, Oct. 8, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 4, 1920, in W. Virginia, to the late Fred I. and Thelma (Kingrey) Smith. He married Ermalee Hass on Jan. 4, 1946, in Las Vegas, Nevada and she survives.
Survivors also include: a son, Ross E. Smith of Korea; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Wilma J.) Krider of Upper Sandusky, and Mrs. Gary (Electa) Foster of Galion; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ernest Smith of Findlay, Denver and Jack Smith, both of Bucyrus; and three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Nellie) Snyder of Bucyrus, Mrs. Thomas (Juanita) Zeigler of Upper Sandusky, and Doris Martin of Plant City, Fla.
Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served in the Air Corp.
Services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Bringman-Clark and Co. Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. The Rev. Julianne Smith will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by local Veteran's Organizations at the Old Mission Cemetery in Upper Sandusky.
Visitation is from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
