Cleo B. (Lanning) Carper
Bettsville homemaker

Cleo B. (Lanning) Carper, 87, of Bettsville, died at 8:10 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999, in the Bethesda Care Center, Sandusky County, Fremont, where she had been a resident for six weeks.

She was born July 1, 1911, in Kansas, Ohio, to Chester and Mina (Meek) Lanning. On Feb. 18, 1932, she married Glenn Carper, who preceded her in death in 1994.

Surviving are: three sons, Gene R. Carper of Tiffin, Dr. N. Gordon Carper of Rome, Ga. and Kenneth M. Carper of Centerville; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Eileen) Warner of Bettsville; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Harold Lanning of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two sisters, Irene Blodgett of Fremont and Freida Sabo of Kansas, Ohio.

A grandson; five brothers, Ted, Walter, Dee, Clifford and Glen Lanning; and three sisters, Helen, Gladys and Ethel, are deceased.

A homemaker, Mrs. Carper attended the Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Amsden High School.

The Rev. Mike Starky will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Wednesday service in the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville. Burial will be in Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Walter G. Bean
Bellevue resident

Walter G. Bean, 49, died at 9 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his home at 800 N. Main St., Bellevue.

He was born in Tiffin, July 1, 1949, the son of the late Warren P. and Alma L. (Magers) Bean. He had never married.

Survivors include: four brothers, Thomas H., Lloyd E. and Earl L. Bean, all of Bellevue and Warren P. Bean Jr. of Findlay; a sister, Mrs. Rick (Patricia) Rohrbacher, also of Bellevue; and several nieces and nephews and special friends.

Two brothers, Wilbur F. Sr. and Robert R. Bean, also are deceased.

Mr. Bean, a member of the Catholic Faith, had been employed as a laborer in factories and in construction.

A Vietnam veteran, serving 1969-70, he was a member of American Legion Post 46, Bellevue; DAV Chapter 34, Tiffin, where he was a life member and past commander and Bellevue VFW Post 1238, where he also was a life member.

Services in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. William Rose officiating. Burial will be in Fairwell Retreat Cemetery, Republic, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the United Veteran's Council.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Community Hospice Care or the donor's choice.

Wilbur E. 'Bud' Fuller
Nickel Plate Railroad retiree

Wilbur E. ''Bud''Fuller, 77, of 107 Monroe St., Bettsville, died at 3:14 a.m. Sunday, March 21, 1999, in Memorial Hospital, Fremont, where he had been a patient for three days.

He was born in Ottawa, April 21, 1921, to Marshal and Grace (McCullough) Fuller. His wife, Patricia L. (Walters) DeVanna Fuller, whom he married Jan.15, 1955, in Fort Wayne, Ind., survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Darhl Fuller of Oakwood; a daughter, Mrs. Ron (Linda) Lomont of New Haven, Ind.; three step-children, Paul DeVanna of Tiffin, Donald DeVanna of Kansas, Ohio and Mrs. Michael (Susan) Windau of Bettsville; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nelda Brenizer of Fort Wayne, Ind.

A sister, Jean Walters, is deceased.

Mr. Fuller, a World War II U.S. Army veteran, retired in 1983 from the Nickel Plate Railroad, where he had been employed for 47 years.

A resident of Bettsville since the 1940s, he was a member of James Sullivan Post-American Legion, Bettsville; the Moose Lodge, Fremont and a devoted fan of the Detroit Tiger Baseball Team.

An avid, dedicated golfer, he had been a member of Nature Trails Golf Club since its opening.

Private services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Engle Funeral Home of Bettsville. Burial will be in Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Seneca County Heart Fund or the Seneca County Cancer Society.

Jay W. Miller
Retired security guard/farmer

Jay W. Miller, 77, a resident of the Autumn Court Nursing Home, Ottawa, formerly of Vine Street, Fostoria, died at 9:20 a.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999, in St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima.

He was born June 28, 1921, in Vanlue, to Forrest and Essie (Thatcher) Miller. On June 25, 1948, in Bowling Green, he married Loma I. Ball, who survives in Fostoria.

Survivors also include: two daughters, Natley Peace and Dolorous ''Doddi'' Cramer, both of Fostoria; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A son, Paul Robin Miller; two brothers, John and William Miller and two sisters, Mary Lackey and Carolyn Amstutz, are deceased.

Mr. Miller, a U.S. Army veteran during World War II, retired in 1984 as a security guard for Pinkerton. Prior to that he was a farmer.

He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Pentacostal Church of God, Fostoria and the Disabled American Veterans.

He and his wife distributed bread and sweet rolls to the Fostoria Community for more than 12 years.

Services in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Donald Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Visitation at the funeral home will be noon-1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
