Opal L. Kathrens
Former hardware owner/operator
Opal L. Kathrens, 92, a resident of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, formerly of Stinchcomb Drive, both of Fostoria, died at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.
She was born in Hancock County Sept. 8, 1907, to Albertis N. and Bertha L. (Hardwick) Rader. She married Emmett A. Dippelhofer. They were divorced. On May 24, 1950, in Adrian, Mich., she married R. Don Kathrens. He died July 14, 1987.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Alberta) Hyte of Fostoria; a stepdaughter, June Lindstrom of Engelwood, Colo.; two stepsons, Richard Kathrens of Jackson, Mich., and Neal Kathrens of Findlay; a sister, Cleota Benham of Findlay; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Cleah Ellen Dippelhofer, and a sister, Kathryn Traucht.
Mrs. Kathrens, a 1925 graduate of Findlay High School, was the owner/operator of Kathrens Hardware in Ottawa Lake, Mich., for more than 27 years, retiring in 1979.
She also worked as an interior decorator in the Toledo area, retiring in 1985 after 25 years.
She was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, Fostoria; its Sharing and Caring Group, Fostoria Ladies Garden Club and the Upbeat Support Group of Findlay.
She also served as a volunteer at Fostoria Community Hospital and the Bureau of Concern.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Jeffrey L. Waite officiating. Burial will be in Arcadia Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the church or the Good Shepherd Home.
Doris I. Ringle

Doris I. Ringle, 83, formerly of Walker Street, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in The Forum at Knightsbridge, Columbus. Arrangements are pending at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.
Betty M. Tarris
Fostoria homemaker
Betty M. Tarris, 78, formerly of West Center Street, a resident at the Good Shepherd Home, both of Fostoria, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in Fostoria Community Hospital.
She was born April 19, 1922, in Fostoria, to Joseph W. and Myrtle (Roushe) Clary. Her husband, Scott O. Tarris, whom she married June 15, 1947, in Fostoria, died in 1980.
Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. David (Beverly) Lang of Fostoria; and two grandchildren.
A son, Gerald W. Tarris; three brothers, Albert, Eugene and Earl Clary; and two sisters, Ruth Clary and Vauda Hunker, are deceased.
Mrs. Tarris, a homemaker, was a member of High Street United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, all of Fostoria.
She was a 1940 graduate of Fostoria High School.
The Rev. Jeffrey L. Waite will be the officiant at the 10:30 a.m. Saturday service in the Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home,
Fostoria. Interment will be in Knollcrest Cemetery (formerly Memory Gardens) near Arcadia.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Edith M. Fields
Licensed practical nurse
Edith M. Fields, 82, formerly of 412 S. 5th St., Upper Sandusky, who resided with her daughter for the past four years at 4103 Billings Road, Castalia, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in Providence Hospital, Sandusky.
She was born Nov. 23, 1917, in Carter City, Ky., to John L. and Martha M. (Rhoden) Oney. Her husband, Everett "Pete" Fields, preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Susan) Sanford of Castalia; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Richard (Janet) Hallberg of Findlay; four grandchildren; and four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Pfeifer of Sebring, Fla., Mrs. Minnie Allen of Clarksville, Ark., Mrs. Calvin (Emma) Lumberson and Mrs. Paul (Ruth) Thiel, both of Upper Sandusky.
Two brothers, Jack and Dwight, are deceased.
Mrs. Fields, a licensed practical nurse, worked at Wyandot Memorial Hospital for 18 years, and retired from Fairhaven Health Care Community in 1983.
A 30-year member of the Nazarene Church, Upper Sandusky, she attended Community Church of the Nazarene in Sandusky.
She served as a Sunday school teacher, taught vacation bible school, sang in the choir and sang duets with her sisters.
Mrs. Fields also played the piano, organ and guitar and her hobbies were fishing, collecting light houses, growing African violets, sewing, crocheting, shopping, animals and raising canaries.
The Rev. Ben Gregory and the Rev. David Flack will be the co-officiants at the 11 a.m. Saturday service in the Church of the Nazarene, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, and 6-8 p.m. today at Community Church of the Nazarene, 4013 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
Memorials may be made to the Church of the Nazarene or Community Church of the Nazarene.
Paul J. Carbin
Former bank vice president
Paul J. Carbin, 89, died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2000, in the Independence Place, 1000 Independence Road, Fostoria, where he resided.
He was born in Tiffin July 31, 1910, to Edward B. and Iva Pearl (Miller) Carbin. His wife, Uldene D. (Stephenson) Carbin, whom he married Oct. 22, 1938, in Fort Wayne, Ind., died Dec. 3, 1998.
A son, Michael A. Carbin of Pickerington, and two grandchildren survive.
A brother, Doyle Carbin, is deceased.
Mr. Carbin retired in 1975 as vice president of Society National Bank, after 17 years. He also had been employed at City Loan in Fostoria, Elyria and Tiffin.
A former chairman of Fostoria City Pool, when it was built in 1938, he was a former chairman of the Ohio Bankers Consumer Loan Division and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria Country Club, the Kiwanis Club and Fostoria Civil Service Commission, all of Fostoria.
He also was a 65-year member of Fostoria Elks Lodge 935 (served as exalted ruler in Elyria); former president of the Young Republican Club in Fostoria, Sidney and Elyria; Dad advisor of Order of DeMolay; and founder and president of the Elyria Boosters Club.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria, with the Rev. Branson J. Hawkes officiating. Interment will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where Elks Lodge memorial services will be at 7.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Esther U. Cole
Fostoria native/homemaker
Esther U. Cole, 91, of 92 Haven Drive, West Melbourne, Fla., died at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Tandem Health Care, Melbourne.
She was born in Fostoria Dec. 18, 1908, to Milton E. and Ollie Mae (Hubler) Moyer. Her husband, H. Raymond Cole, died in 1991.
Surviving are two sons, David L. Cole of West Melbourne and Roger R. Cole of Lynchburg, Va.; a sister, Eula Hartman of Beaverdam, Ohio; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cole, a homemaker, was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Melbourne.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, with the Rev. Jeffrey Waite of High Street United Methodist Church, officiating.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 110 E. New Haven Ave., Melbourne, FL 32904.
Denise Louise Clink
Gene's Carry Out co-owner
Denise Louise Clink, 42, of Limberick Road, Clyde, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at Gene's Carry-Out, the victim of a shooting during a robbery.
She was born May 26, 1957, in Fremont, to Raymond and Donna (Falter) Spieldenner, who both survive in Fremont. On Jan. 18, 1980, she married Rick Clink. He survives.
Other survivors include: two children, Rachel and John Clink, both of Clyde; a brother, Dennis L. Spieldenner of Lindsay; three sisters, Mrs. Glen (Jennifer) Meszaros of Toledo, Mrs. Louis (Pamela) Fraley of Fremont and Mrs. David (Lisa) Rombkowski of Walbridge; six nieces and nephews and two great-nephews.
Mrs. Clink, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, retired in 1998 from Columbia Gas, after 22 years. She was a co-owner of Gene's Carry Out.
A 1974 graduate of Fremont Ross High School, she attended Sacred Heart School through the 8th grade.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, with the Rev. Mark Herzog officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Clyde.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Friday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to her children.

Tiffin Glass/Mercy Hospital retiree
Liturgical services for Betty M. Spicer, 78, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Transept Chapel of St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James Say officiating. There will be no rosary service.
Formerly of 2011 W. CR 592, she died at 10:46 p.m. Monday, April 24, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.
