Gregory Scott Miller
Capital projects/maintenance manager

Gregory Scott Miller, 33, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, at his residence at 3737 S. TR 159.

He was born Dec. 28, 1965, in Tiffin, the son of Thomas C. and Oleta H. (Lucius) Miller. They survive in Republic. His former wife, Laura Miller, whom he married Nov. 11, 1988, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Tiffin, survives in Tiffin. They were divorced this year.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Kayla Miller, 6, of Tiffin; two brothers, Jeffrey C. and Rodney A. Miller, both of Tiffin; paternal grandmother, Mary C. Miller of Tiffin; maternal grandmother, Mildred A Lucius, also of Tiffin; and four nieces.

His paternal grandfather, Russell C. Miller, and his maternal grandfather, Aloysius J. Lucius, are deceased.

Mr. Miller, a 1984 graduate of Seneca East High School and a 1986 graduate of Terra Community College, Fremont, was employed as a capital projects and maintenance manager at Bucyrus Blades Co.

An avid A.T.V. enthusiast, he enjoyed sand dunes and gardening. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Msgr. Edward Dunn as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:15 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, where a parish wake service will be at 3:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Kayla Miller Trust Fund or the church.

Doris E. Gould
Wyandot County homemaker

Doris E. Gould, 85, of 602 N. Sandusky Ave., Upper Sandusky, formerly of Antrim Township, Wyandot County, died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, July 26, 1999, in the Fairhaven Health Care Community, Upper Sandusky.

She was born in Marseilles Township, Wyandot County, to Jerry and Rose (Wyss) Weaver. On Dec. 25, 1933, in Hardin County, she married Milo L. Gould, who preceded her in death April 26, 1986.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. David (Treva) Schilling of Upper Sandusky; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Austin "Sam" Weaver of Kenton and James Weaver of California.

A son, Gary died in 1983, and an infant son, Dean Allen; a brother, William Weaver; and a sister, Frances Hahl, also are deceased.

Mrs. Gould, a homemaker, also assisted on the families Antrim Township livestock and grain farm.

A 1932 Dola High School graduate, she attended Salem United Methodist Church, Eden Township, Wyandot County.

For 25 years, she wintered in North Fort Myers, Fla., where she was active in the church, played in the Gingham Band, played cards, bajache ball and dominos and did volunteer work.

She also volunteered at Wyandot Memorial Hospital and enjoyed sewing crafts, oil painting, making afghans, quilting and gardening and lawn work.

The Rev. Sonja Bender and the Rev. Carolyn Berry will be the co-officiants at the 11 a.m. Friday service in the Bringman-Clark and Company Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Burial will be in Dola Cemetery, Dola.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the church, the Gideons International or a charity of the donor's choice.

Alice E. Yant
Retired school teacher

Alice E. Yant, 94, formerly of Douglas Street, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in St. Francis Home.

She was born Sept. 30, 1904, in Tiffin, to John D. and Martha A. (Newman) Peasmaker. Her husband, Floyd A. Yant, whom she married Dec. 29, 1928, in Cleveland, died Oct. 27, 1964.

A niece, Betty Jagodzinski of Toledo, survives.

Also preceding her in death were a nephew, Charles Seim Jr., and two sisters, Doris Peasmaker and Lucille Seim.

Mrs. Yant, a school teacher, retired as a secretary/bookkeeper, from the Smith Ice and Coal Co.

Also an organ music teacher, she was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Daughters of American Revolution.

Services in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be at noon Thursday, with the Rev. Gail Angel officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery.

Visitation at the funeral home will be 10 a.m.-noon Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the church or the Humane Society.

Helen I. Banks
Former Westwood Drive homemaker

Helen I. Banks, 82, formerly of 110 Westwood Drive, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in St. Francis Home.

She was born in Quincy, Ill., Sept. 24, 1916, to Royce and Irene (Bille) Judd. On May 15, 1943, in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tiffin, she married Richard E. Banks, who died Aug. 31, 1992.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard R. Banks of Oakland, Calif. and Thomas Banks of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Mrs. William (Kathleen Marie Banks) Wiggins of Yardley, Pa.; a brother, Donald Judd of Tiffin and five grandchildren.

A brother, Royce Judd, also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Banks, a 1934 Columbian High School graduate, was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and its Rosary Altar Society.

The Rev. William Rose will be the celebrant at the 10 a.m. Saturday funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at the church at 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation at the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, where a parish wake service will be at 7:45 p.m.

Dr. Susan Jane Reed
Heidelberg English professor

Susan Jane Reed, Ph.D., 45, of Tiffin, formerly of Wareham, Mass., died Monday, July 26, 1999, in Our Lady's Haven, Fairhaven, Mass., following a year long battle with cancer.

She was the daughter of John "Jack" E. Reed of Wareham, and the late Jean Bell Reed.

Survivors also include: a sister, Nancy E. Reed of Bellingham, Mass.; and many family and friends.

Born and raised in Wareham, she attended Wareham schools and was a 1971 graduate of Wareham High School, where she was a National Merit Scholar. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Wellesley College and earned both her masters and Ph.D. in English from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

She moved to Tiffin in 1989, where she was employed as a professor of English at Heidelberg College. Reed was awarded the 1997 Faculty of the Year Award at Heidelberg. Always the advocate for student causes, she was extremely active in student organizations and was the faculty adviser for the school newspaper and Sigma Tau Nu, a men's fraternity on campus. She also was a noted scholar of Mark Twain literature. Prior to 1989, she also taught at EMass at Amherst and Westfield State in Massachusetts.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick's Church, Wareham.

Janet Gilbert
Former Heinz employee/Hospice volunteer

Janet Gilbert, 60, of Sandusky CR 183, Clyde, died at her residence Tuesday, July 27, 1999.

She was born Feb. 28, 1939, in Richland County, Wisc., to Elgin and Helen (Zimmerlee) Fish. Her mother survives in Clyde. Her husband, Dean Gilbert, whom she married Sept. 20, 1958, also survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Robert Gilbert; a daughter, Robin Gilbert of Vickery; two brothers, Lavern Fish of Castalia and Charles Fish of Fremont; four sisters, Mrs. Marvin (Verna) Hill of Champaign, Ill., Mrs. Robert (Alice) Stone of Ostrander, Mrs. Jack (Judy) Loudenslager and Kathleen Myers, both of Clyde; and three grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her father in 1963, and a niece.

Mrs. Gilbert, a 1957 graduate and salutatorian of Townsend High School, was employed as a laborer at Heinz in Fremont, last working in May 1995. She also served as a Hospice volunteer.

She was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, where she had served as choir director, chorister and on the church council. She enjoyed camping and collecting antique glassware.

The Rev. David Vensel will conduct the 10:30 a.m. Friday service in Mount Carmel United Methodist Church. Interment will be in McPherson Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.

Memorials may be made to the church or Hospice of Sandusky County.

Dale E. Delp
Iron/metal company retiree

Dale E. Delp, 73, of Sandusky CR 234, Fremont, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in the Countryside Continuing Care Center, Fremont.

He was born in Fremont, Feb. 3, 1926, to Elmer and Pearl (Knepper) Delp. His wife, Arlene (McQuery) Delp is deceased.

Survivors include: a daughter, Marlene Delp of California; a sister, Suzanne Dieter of Arizona and a brother, Paul Delp of Florida.

A sister, Gladys Wilfong, is deceased.

Mr. Delp, a Fremont Ross High School graduate, retired from Burn's Iron and Metal in Fremont. He also worked as a prison guard at Marion and the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and Brainerd Masonic Lodge, both of Fremont and the Izzak Walton League, where he taught gun safety for many years.

At Mr. Delps' request, his body has been donated to science. There will be no service or visitation. The Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Brainard Masonic Lodge or the Izaak Walton League.
