Eugene H. Hoover

Eugene H. Hoover, 69, died at 8:50 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at his home at 2801 W. U.S. 224.
He was born in Tiffin, Aug. 1, 1930, to the late Daryl and Viola (Scherger) Hoover. His wife, Vonda (Hoffman) Hoover, whom he married Oct. 9, 1954, in St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom, survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Randall Hoover of Tiffin; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Elaine) Leaver and Diana Hoover, both of Tiffin; two grandsons, Jason and Andrew; and a brother, Wayne Hoover of Bascom.
Mr. Hoover, a graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School, retired from Seislove Burial Vaults and Septic Tanks, where he had been employed for 45 years.
A U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict, he was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, New Riegel American Legion Post 354 and Tiffin VFW Post 2858. He also was active in Boy Scouting.
The Rev. David Bruning will be the celebrant at the 10:30 a.m. Tuesday funeral Mass in St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery, where military graveside services will be conducted by New Riegel American Legion Post 354.
Visitation at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, where New Riegel American Legion services will be at 8 p.m. and a Christian wake service at 8:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care, the church, Hopewell-Loudon School or a charity of the donor's choice.
Benjamin J. Ross
Father of Tiffin resident
Benjamin J. Ross, 76, of Marion, died at 3:53 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, in Marion General Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1923, in Waldo, to Dr. Joseph and Edith V. (Cook) Ross. On Sept. 22, 1951, he married Donna M. Lilley, who survives in Richmond, Ind.
Survivors also include: two sons, Larry E. Ross of Marion and John P. Ross of Tiffin; two brothers, John Scott of Bellflower, Ill. and Harold Ross of Peoria, Ariz.; and a grandchild.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Daniel Robert and James Ross; and a sister, Mary Louise McQuiston.
Mr. Ross, known as "Uncle Fuzz" to several nieces and nephews, was employed as a maintenance engineer at Marion Power Shovel for 31 years. He also worked for the New York Central Roadroad for 13 years.
A life-long Marion area resident, he was a member of Oakland United Methodist Church and a former member of the Marion FOPA.
Services in the Boyd Funeral Home, Marion, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. David Cottrell officiating. Interment will be in Caledonia Cemetery.
Visitation at the funeral home will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.
