Judy Lou Shellhouse
Former G.E. employee

Judy Lou Shellhouse, 58, formerly of 19 Longfellow Drive, died at 9:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born June 23, 1942, in McComb, to the late Karl and Martha (Jumper) Wonder. On Feb. 4, 1961, she married Kenneth Shellhouse, who preceded her in death April 22, 1983.

Survivors include: three sons, Kenneth Shellhouse of Fostoria, Kevin Shellhouse of Tiffin and Keith Shellhouse of Attica; a sister, Rosemary Malone of Findlay; and three grandchildren.

A son, Kyle, died March 6, 1992; and four brothers, Fred, Jim, Ray and Don Wonder, also are deceased.

Mrs. Shellhouse, a 1961 graduate of Columbian High School, worked in the starter department as a machine operator for 13 1/2 years at the General Electric. She also worked at the RCA in Findlay for 4 1/2 years.

A member of the Eagles Auxiliary and GEWOTS, she attended the First Lutheran Church.

Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hoffman-Gottfried Funeral home to precede in procession to the 11 a.m. graveside service in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore..

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to her family, in care of the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

 

Hugh C. Riley
Glenn Street resident

Hugh C. Riley, 82, 45 Glenn St., died Wednesday morning, Nov. 22, 2000, in Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. Arrangements are pending at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 SR 19, Bloomville.

Chester Arthur Lobdell
Sears retiree

Chester Arthur Lobdell, 70, of Vine Street, Clyde, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, in St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, following a sudden illness.

He was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Reno, Nev., to Chester A. Lobdell Sr. and Inez (Armstrong) Lobdell Rogers. His wife, Carol (Behnke) Lobdell, whom he married Nov. 14, 1959, survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Craig Arthur Lobdell of Columbus and Christopher Andrew Lobdell of Toledo; and three grandchildren.

A half-sister and two half-brothers, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Lobdell, a 1949 graduate of Clyde High School, retired as a full-time salesman from Sears in 1995. He also was the owner of Cal's Sewing Machine Repair.

A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde, where he was a Sunday School teacher for many years; a choir member for more than 30 years and a member of the church's dartball team.

He served on the board of Habitat for Humanity of Sandusky County and as Red Cross of Northwest Ohio blood driver.

He also was a member of the Top Hats singing group; Guiding Lights Gospel singing group, the Exchange Club of Clyde and Clyde VFW.

The Rev. Garry Gosnell will be the officiant at the 1:30 p.m. Saturday service in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clyde. Interment will be in McPherson Cemetery, Clyde.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde.

Memorials may be made to the church.

Francisco Vargas
Laborer

Francisco Vargas, 63, of Nelson Street, Clyde, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, in the Bellevue Hospital.

He was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Mercedes, Texas, to Francisco Vargas Sr. and Maria Santos Sosa. His mother survives in Texas. On Dec. 1, 1957, he married Tomasa (Alvarado) Vargas, who also survives

Other survivors include: his step-mother, Mercedes Diaz Vargas of Texas; 11 children, Eloisa, Maria, Albert and Juan Vargas, all of Clyde, Mrs. John (Vange) Stuart Jr. of Bellevue, Tono Vargas of Clyde, Eddie, Tom, Cete and Jessie Vargas, all of Bellevue and Ruben Vargas of Willard; seven brothers and sisters, Justo, Lupe and Lucy Vargas and Janie Vargas-Enriquez, all of Texas, Ron Vargas of Clyde, Maria Vargas of Washington, D.C. and Christina Vargas-Medina, also of Texas; and 31 grandchildren.

His father; a daughter, Victoria Vargas; a sister, Sofia Vargas; and a brother, Robert Vargas, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Vargas, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, was employed as a laborer. He received his education in Texas.

The Rev. Jeff Nordhaus will be the officiant at the 10 a.m. Saturday service in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, where the rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

Sonia R. Gaietto
Former Tiffin resident

Sonia R. Gaietto, 79, formerly of Tiffin, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Tucson, Ariz.

She was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Wyandotte, Mich., to Michael and Catherine (Oblasho) Harbelski. Her husband, Joseph J. Gaietto Sr., whom she married Nov. 27, 1952, in Wyandotte, died Aug. 12, 1996.

Survivors include: five children, Mrs. Michael (Brenda) Oddou of Altadena, Calif.; Michael J. Gaietto of Scottsdale, Ariz., Thomas L. Gaietto of Columbus, Mrs. Michael (Linda) Naifeh, also of Tucson and Joseph J. Gaietto Jr. of Tiffin; two brothers, Peter Hrabelski of Wyandotte and Frank Hrabelski of South Rockwood, Mich.; three sisters, Mary Hart of Wyandotte, Jeanette Charney of Taylor, Mich. and June Drazdowski, also of Wyandotte; and three grandchildren.

Two brothers, Paul and Joseph; and a sister, Helen Montney, also are deceased.

Mrs. Gaietto, a homemaker, was a graduate of Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School, Wyandotte, and a 1945 graduate of St. Mary Hospital School of Nursing, Detroit, Mich.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

The Rev. William Rose will be the celebrant at the 10 a.m. Monday funeral Mass in St. Mary Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at the church at 9:45 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday in the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where the rosary will be prayed at 8:45 p.m.

Memorials may be made to Calvert High School.

Paul T. Shaull
Lima Tank Plant retiree

Paul T. Shaull, 61, of 912 N. SR 587, Fostoria, died at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2000, in Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center, Findlay.

He was born Feb. 17, 1939, in Seneca County, to the late Thomas C. and Edna K. (Kimmet) Shaull.

Surviving are two sons, Todd J. Shaull of Columbus and Nicholas J. Shaull of Fostoria; two daughters, Susan C. Cowlishaw of Charleston, S.C. and Kelly A. Shaull of Van Buren; a grandson; two brothers, Andrew Shaull of Alvada and John Shaull of Fostoria; and three sisters, Margaret Shaull and Louise Noel, both of Fostoria and Dolores Williams of Ravenna.

A sister, Mary Riehlmann, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Shaull, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, retired in 1986 from General Dynamics Lima Tank Plant.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Saturday in the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria.

Gladys Mae Arter
Former Upper Sandusky resident

Gladys Mae Arter, 85, formerly of CH 44, Upper Sandusky, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 22, 2000, at her son David's home in Sycamore, where she had been living.

She was born June 29, 1915, in Marion, to Carl and Alma (Packer) Little. On Nov. 25, 1943, in Upper Sandusky, she married Morris M. Arter, who died April 19, 2000.

Surviving are two sons, David Arter of Sycamore; and Richard Arter of Dayton; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

A brother, Ronald Little, also is deceased.

Mrs. Arter, a 1934 graduate of Marseilles High School, was a homemaker. Before she married she worked at Rieser's Grocery as a clerk.

She was a member of Union United Methodist Church, rural Upper Sandusky and her hobbies were vegetable gardening and needlepoint.

The Rev. Sonja Bender will conduct the 11 a.m. Saturday service in the Lucas Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Upper Sandusky.

Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the church or the Wyandot County Senior Citizens.

Dr. Marion A. Shaffer
Longtime Bloomville dentist

Dr. Marion A. "Doc" Shaffer, 92, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, in the Regency Nursing Home, Canton. He had Alzheimer's Disease.

He was born May 12, 1908, in Willard to Maude (Park) and Norman Shaffer. In 1938, in Bloomville, he married Grace Hull Miller, who was his receptionist and assistant until her retirement. She died in 1984. In March of 1991 he married Virginia Kunkle, who survives.

Survivors also include his only daughter, Mrs. Van (Alice Shaffer) Chaney; three granddaughters and a grandson; and step-children, Jim Kunkle of Clinton, and John Kunkle of Las Vegas, Nev. and Mrs. Dennis Stephan of Canal Fulton.

A sister, Gwendolyn Arndt, also is deceased.

Dr. Shaffer, a graduate of Willard High School, attended college at Otterbein and graduated from the Ohio State University School of Dentistry.

He received his license from the Ohio State Dental Board in 1932 and practiced with Dr. Souder in Greenwich until he established a practice in Bloomville in the spring of 1934. His entire dental career was spent serving patients in Bloomville and the surrounding communities.

He resided with his second wife in Canal Fulton and later moved into a retirement home in Canton.

His hobbies included feeding birds, reading, photography and designing and making jewelry.

The service will take place at 1 p.m., Dec. 2 in the Bloomville United Church of Christ, where he maintained membership. His ashes will be interred at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bloomville, in a private family service. The Trinity Lutheran Church, Canton, will be the location of the 2 p.m.., Dec. 3 service.
