Russell Porter Sr., 83, died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 28, 1999, at his residence in Fostoria. Arrangements are pending at the Mann-Hare Funeral Home, Fostoria.
William J. O'Donnell

William J. O'Donnell, 72, of 1807 Stonehill Drive, Findlay, died at 5:35 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
He was born in Detroit, Mich., March 20, 1927, to William J. and Catharine B. (Johnson) O'Donnell Sr. On July 1, 1950, he married Joyce C. Smith, who died May 23, 1985. He later married Rita R. Davis on June 6, 1986. She survives in Findlay.
Other survivors include: two sons, William J. O'Donnell Jr. of Winter Springs, Fla. and James M. O'Donnell of Findlay; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Maureen A.) Mann of Westlake and Beth A. O'Donnell of Bay Village; 14 grandchildren; a step-daughter, Mrs. Stephen (Julie L.) Loach of Findlay; a step-son, Douglas A. Darwactor with the U.S. Navy in Japan; and a sister, Mrs. William (Elizabeth A.) Best of Union Lake, Mich.
A sister, Mary Jane Anderson, is deceased.
Mr. O'Donnell, owner and operator of O'Donnell Chevrolet Inc. in Fostoria 1957-81, also was employed by Lloyd Treadway Buick, Findlay 1981-86. He had worked at Jerry McCarthy Chevrolet in Detroit, Mich. 1949-57.
He had been employed with Coldwell-Banker-Geyer Associates, Findlay, as a real estate agent since 1986.
A 1945 graduate of St. Mary's of Redford High School and a 1949 graduate of the University of Detroit, he was a member of St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.
He also was a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Fostoria Country Club, Fostoria Rotary Club, where he had served as past president; United Way Fund Board past chairman, Chamber of Commerce past board member, 45 year Knight of Columbus-Council 1197, Fostoria; board member of the Lima Symphony 1992-96 and past president of the Findlay Board of Realtors.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Wendelin Catholic Church, where the rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. today at the Hoening Funeral Home, Fostoria, where a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the church, St. Vincent DePaul and the Loudan Home of Findlay.
Dorothy L. (Lawrence) Edwards

Dorothy L. (Lawrence) Edwards, 75, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, 1999, at her residence at 6109 W. Mason Road, Sandusky, following a lengthy illness.
She was born July 20, 1924, in Sandusky, to John and Edith (King) Lawrence. Her husband of 38 years, Dennis V. Edwards, survives.
Survivors also include: two sons, David G. Edwards of Willard and Michael M. Edwards of Sandusky; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
A son, Jeffrey L. Edwards; six brothers, Linford, Leland, Gifford, Harvey and Walter Lawrence and an infant Perry; and two sisters, Orma Bennett and an infant, Lillian, are deceased.
Mrs. Edwards, a 1942 graduate of Sandusky High School, had been employed as a licensed practical nurse at the former Good Samaritan Hospital in Sandusky.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
The Rev. David Hixson will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Friday service in Calvary Baptist Church, 1810 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Burial will be in Bloomingville Cemetery.
Visitation will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. The body will lie in state 10 a.m. until time of the service on Friday at the church.

Mary A. Miller
Retired grocery clerk
Mary A. Miller, 83, formerly of 105 Coe St., died at 3:12 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, in the Ruffing Family Care Center, Bloomville.
She was born in Melmore, Jan. 7, 1916, to Vernon and Nora (Stevens) Prindle. On Oct. 18, 1937, in Toledo, she married James Blair Miller, who survives.
Also surviving are: a son, Charles V. Miller of Tiffin; two daughters, Sonja Cleveland and Mrs. John (Kay) Ricker, both of Tiffin; a brother, Vernon Prindle of Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Neva Gillen of Lake City, Minn.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Four brothers, Wilbur, Russell, Jerry and Arthur Prindle; four sisters, Carmen Welter, Vivian Taber, Marguerite O'Donnell and Delia Stephens; and a grandson, William Ricker, also are deceased.
Mrs. Miller, a member of the Methodist Church, retired as a clerk from the former A&P Grocery Store in Tiffin.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Hannay-Traunero Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gail Angel officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bloomville.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Community Hospice Care or a charity of the donor's choice.
Richard C. Welter
National Machinery retiree
Richard C. Welter, 65, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at his home at 1783 E. SR 18.
He was born Nov. 16, 1934, in Seneca County, to William N. and Clara C. (Gillig) Welter. His mother survives in Tiffin. His wife, Evelyn L. (Behm) Welter, whom he married June 7, 1958, in St. Joseph Church, Tiffin, died March 24, 1968.
Survivors also include: a son, Stephen W. Welter of LaGrange, Ill.; and two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Agnes Ann) Heckman of Maumee and Mrs. William (Mary Jane) Kasuga of Defiance.
His father; a son, Michael R.; and a brother, William J. Welter, are deceased.
Mr. Welter, a 1953 graduate of Calvert High School, retired as a material handler from the National Machinery Co. He formerly worked at Floom and Fleck Co. and Dariano Construction.
A veteran of the Army Reserves, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, several Antique Farm Machinery Associations and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. James K. Say as celebrant. The rosary will be recited at the church at 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation is 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today at the Hoffmann-Gottfried Funeral Home, where a wake service will be at 8:45 p.m.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Ruby R. Schueler

Ruby R. Schueler, 91, of 514 Buckeye Drive, Attica, died at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, in Hillside Acres Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 23, 1908, in St. Stephens, to Jacob E. and Regina (Wechter) Felter. She married John J. Schueler, Feb. 23, 1935, in St. Stephen's Catholic Church. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, John D. Schueler of Bloomville; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Jane) Heinrichs and Mrs. Russell (Mary Beth) Magers, both of Attica; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wilbur J. Felter of Tiffin and Robert F. Felter of Bloomville; and a sister, Faye Chailin of Monte Sereno, Calif.
A sister, Mary Beatrice Felter; a brother, John F. Felter; an infant grandson; and an infant great-grandson are deceased.
Mrs. Schueler, a 1925 graduate of Bloomville High School, was a member of the Art Circle and St. Stephens Alter and Rosary Society.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Attica, with the Rev. Joseph Szybka officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
At the wishes of Mrs. Schueler, there will be no calling hours.
Memorials may be made to the church, the Attica Lions Club or the Attica Food Pantry.

Thomas F. Bordner
Seneca Street resident
Thomas F. Bordner, 57, 1320 Seneca St., died at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, at his residence.
He was born in Lucas County, Jan. 18, 1942, to the late Ralph O. and Mayme (Bartlett) Bordner. He had never married.
Survivors include: three brothers, Robert L. Bordner Sr. of Fostoria, James P. Bordner of Tiffin and Wayne Holmer of Toledo; two sisters, Mrs. Lloyd (Margarette) Smith of Tiffin and Mrs. Gary (Darlene) Shumaker of Sycamore; and nieces and nephews.
Four brothers -- Ralph, Leonard and Victor Bordner and an infant -- are deceased.
Mr. Bordner lived most of his life in the Tiffin area.
The Rev. Wendell Shepherd will be the officiant at the 11 a.m. Thursday service in the Turner-Engle Funeral Home.Interment will be in Fairmont Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Louise Smetzer

Louise Smetzer, 72, of Sandusky CR 235, Bellevue, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at her residence.
She was born in Clyde, Dec. 25, 1927, to Dale and Rose (Grove) Hofelich. On July 3, 1950, she married Kenlon Smetzer, who died Jan. 27, 1996.
Survivors include: two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Mercedes) Shearon of Clyde and Mrs. Harry (Mary) Warner of Gibsonburg; two brothers, Charles Dale Hofelich of Sandusky and Ronald Eugene Hofelich of Fremont; and nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, John "Jack" and George Hofelich, also are deceased.
Mrs. Smetzer, a 1945 graduate of Clyde High School, retired in 1968 from the General Electric Co. She had formerly worked at Bendix.
A life-time Clyde area resident, she was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Eagles Auxiliary and Senior Citizens, all of Clyde.
A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clyde, with interment following in Parkhurst Cemetery, Clyde.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, Clyde, where a Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m.
