Bettsville breaks ground for addition
During the Nov. 2, 1999, general election Bettsville School district voters approved a 3.0 mill bond levy.
Thanks to their support and the remainder of funding from the Ohio School Facilities Commission, ground for the new addition was broken Sunday afternoon.
The addition will give the school six new classrooms, a high school science lab, a music room and technology lab. The area, which will become the high school wing, is approximately 170 feet long, and 120 feet at its widest point. The addition and other improvements to the current building, will total $5,271,974.40.
Shelter would help people get back on their feet
A homeless shelter could be in Tiffin's future if plans City Council set in motion Monday night come to fruition.
At a special meeting, the council passed an ordinance authorizing the purchase of 95 S. Monroe St., and passed a resolution saying the city intends to sell the property to the Seneca County Homeless Coalition for use as a shelter, if certain conditions are met.
The shelter would be geared for families and would have 24-hour supervision, said coalition board member Sue Madden. Residents of the shelter would be required to be involved in programs like obtaining a GED, as well as chores around the shelter.
Rotary speaker warns of dangers of farming
Leroy Billman knows about carelessness. Eighteen years ago, it cost him his right arm. The then 19-year-old Billman caught his unbuttoned windbreaker in the round baler on his family's farm.
As safety director of Ohio Farm Bureau, he told his story at the Rotary Club Rural-Urban Day annual lunch.
Clark Hutson, chairman of the event's organizational committee, felt that safety would be a good theme.
There are more than 100,000 agriculture-related injuries each year, many of them fatal.
