Saturday hats off

Jaycees raise $2,700 for cancer victim

The Tiffin Jaycees were instrumental is raising $2,700 Saturday for a cancer victim, Nicholas Watson, at a benefit dance in his honor. "This is the biggest thing we've ever done," said Carol Owen, Jaycee president. It was such a success that Owen said the Jaycees are eager to get involved in a similar project. Projects like this will earn the Jaycees a spot in the hearts of people across the community.

Community efforts for GOBA visit lauded

A tip of the hat to all the people in the community who have been working to make Sunday's visit by an expected 3,000 bicyclists an enjoyable experience for both cyclists and residents. An array of activities are planned for Sunday's Tiffin stop in the Greater Ohio Bicycle Adventure. Some of the GOBA events are being coordinated with sesquicentennial activities for the City of Tiffin.

Volunteers maintain Victorian garden

The informal Victorian garden behind the Gramme-Brown House on Jefferson Street owes its revived existence to dedicated volunteers. In recent years, Tiffin Historic Trust members have taken over the garden's maintenance, enabling it to continue to give visitors a view of gardening in days gone by. Only organic gardening techniques are used. Much of the credit for how the garden looks today goes to retired landscaper Dave Spitler. Historic Trust members who donate their time to the garden also donate plants from home, trying to maintain its Victorian feel.
