Purdum will be a hard act to follow

User friendly.

That's what Tiffin's parks have become under the supervision and leadership of Judy Purdum.

As the city's first full-time parks and recreation director, Purdum has overseen a broadening of activities and resources in the parks.

Tiffin for years had offered a fine program of baseball and softball, in addition to playground, shelter house and swimming facilities.

Purdum, working with the park and recreation board, has expanded use of the parks for other recreational, sports and fitness activities. The programs, from roller hockey to walking trails to sports classes to cooperative ventures with the YMCA, have increased greatly the number of people using the parks.

Purdum's departure for new pursuits in Vancouver, Wash., presents a new challenge to the recreation board. Its members in hiring the second full-time director need to find someone who will continue to cultivate the city's parks and recreation program.
