Tiffin loop road plan to be studied

The Tiffin Council's Law and Community Planning Committee has recommended the city set aside $4,000 for a study that may result in a bypass northeast of Tiffin from SR 53 to SR 18. The county, Clinton and Hopewell townships, the Sandusky-Seneca-Tiffin Port Authority, the Tiffin Area Chamber of Commerce and the Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp. are contributing to the $22,000 study. It is good to see local officials pursuing this highway possibility -- which could be critical in development efforts -- instead of sitting back and waiting for it to happen.

Citizens take action on landfill problem

It is good to see that some of the people who live near the CR 90 landfill are appealing the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's Final Findings and Orders in anticipation of an agreement that will be signed by the city and state EPA director Chris Jones. Since the citizens don't agree with what is happening to correct the situation at the abandoned landfill, they are stepping forth with courage to try to force a better solution. Citizen involvement is central to a participatory system such as ours.

Coalition catalyst for study of Sandusky

The Sandusky River Watershed Coalition is proving to be a catalyst for an effort that could improve the quality of the river. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency began testing last week for a comprehensive study of the northern part of the Sandusky. The river was moved ahead on EPA's schedule because "the Sandusky River Watershed Coalition is in place and interested in using the information after it's completed." After the study is complete, the watershed becomes eligible to apply for grant money to alleviate any problems found.
