Saturday hats off
Tiffin makes GOBA welcome
From all reports heard here, the people of Tiffin and environs succeeded in rolling out the welcome mat as 3,500 bicyclists pedaled into town, enjoyed the sights, sounds, snacks and sleep, and then pedaled away. The planners who make the local arrangements for this segment of the Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure should be commended, as should individuals, organizations and businesses who did their parts. A tip of the hat to all.
Skit informative and humorous
Any observer would have to admit that two of Tiffin's elected officials -- both former school teachers -- showed both a sense of history and a sense of humor as they tumbled headlong into their roles in a skit celebrating the city's sesquicentennial. We think kudos are deserved by Finance Director Larry Clausing and Mayor Bernie Hohman, as well as skit writer and narrator John Bing, for re-enacting the strife ridden history of early Tiffin.
Fostoria schools moving in right direction
Fostoria Community Schools officials had a right to be excited at Monday's board meeting. The district has made great strides in improving performance on the standards established by the Ohio Department of Education. Fostoria schools were identified as in Academic Emergency on the 1999 report card, passing only seven of the 27 standards. This year's proficiency test results should move the district up to Academic Watch. Continuing improvement is planned.
