Suitable response will mend, improve stadium People interested in having a stadium fit to serve the needs of the community have started a campaign to raise $2 million. That's a lot of money. But if you consider the advantages to the approach being used, it's apparent WHY the money should be raised and that it CAN be. What now will be known as Tiffin Stadium is showing the wear and tear of more than half a century of use. Following the leadership of Bob and Elaine Hunt, the Tiffin Stadium Renovation Project is moving ahead with the effort to raise the $2 million and a five-phase plan to repair the stadium and press box, install a durable ''Field Turf'' to permit multi-school use of the football field, replace the all-weather track, install an electronic scoreboard and maintain an endowment to fund keep the stadium facilities in repair. The need for the endeavor is obvious. The stadium structure itself is visibly in need of extensive repair. The track is no longer suitable for meets. The field - which sees use for home football games for Columbian, Calvert, Heidelberg and Tiffin University - would always be in good shape with minimum maintenance with the Field Turf installed. The campaign can succeed. As with any such fund drive, the key is widespread participation. Needed are a good number of large gifts, many more medium-sized donations and a multitude of smaller contributions. The enthusiasm of the Hunts and their fellow volunteers will be a major positive factor. Their vitality will make it easier for people to the benefits of the project. Potential donors should not be daunted by the $2 million goal. That's because there will be a place for contributions of all sizes. Some individuals, businesses or institutions may be able to afford $250,000. For others it may be $10 or $10,000. Or $500 or $100. United in the same fund, they can add up to $2 million. This is a project that should succeed. There are thousands of people in the community who have benefitted from the existence of this stadium through the years. Thousands more will gain if an improved stadium is a part of the future. All that is needed is a community response that fits the challenge.
