Donation of blood has no minuses

Across the nation, donations of blood are down.

Officials fear a crisis next year if the present trend continues.

Giving blood is quick, it doesn't cost anything, it's not fattening and it can come back to help you.

In this area, the Seneca County chapter of the American Red Cross offers bloodmobiles visits frequently and in a variety of locations.

Improved technology has done more than make giving blood completely safe. It allows a variety of uses for each donated unit through employment of the blood components for specific needs.

This is as good a time as any to start the reversal of the downward trend in blood donations. Each person knows &emdash; if they take the time to reflect on it &emdash; that they would want an adequate blood supply on hand if their survival depended on it.

The way for that to be ensured is for all of us to donate when we are not in such a desperate situation.
