Saturday's hats off

Many contribute to successful fair

Hats off to all the people who worked hard to make the Seneca County Fair successful. The fair board; the adults and children who exhibit; the royalty; all involved in the Junior Fair; the vendors; and others all help to make the fair a success every year. This year was no different.

Kanable's service appreciated

A tip of the hat to Mohawk High School Principal Jim Kanable for his six years of service in his position. He is leaving the school to take the assistant principal's job at the new Perrysburg High School, which is to open in September.

He is looking forward to the challenges he will face in a new school, four times the size of Mohawk. Kanable, 39, has completed six years in the front office at Mohawk.

Before that, he taught social studies at both Columbian and Granville high schools.

Sheriff's office making progress

Hats off to the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, where officials are making progress in trying to cut down a backlog of warrants. After about a month of operation, the newly-formed Warrants and Transports Division at the sheriff's office has cleared out 372 of 700 old warrants.

Since starting the new division, the sheriff's office has been working with the various area courts to get the number trimmed down. Some of the old warrants went back to the early 1990s.
