Hats off

Emergency personnel work to preclude environmental disaster

Tip of the hat to all of the firefighters, Red Cross volunteers, law enforcement, the Ohio and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and construction firms who worked together to get the Kirby Tire fire under control this week. Firefighters battled the blaze for hours, Red Cross volunteers worked to support the emergency crews, while construction firms used their equipment to haul sand. EPA officials worked to protect the environment. Everyone pulled together to make the best out of a terrible situation.

Tiffin schools offer helpline for safety

Students, staff and parents soon will be able to utilize the "Safe School Helpline" to report dangerous or illegal happenings at a Tiffin City school. The best part of the system is it allows the caller to remain anonymous so no one needs to be afraid to call. The system will not only make it safer for concerned citizens to make a call, but allow the school environment to become safer and crime-free for everyone.

Cleaning up the river draws 100 workers

The hard work of more than 100 volunteers who worked to clean up the Sandusky River should be commended. The volunteers took time out of their busy summer day to clean up the river that has been filled with trash left behind by others. Their efforts should be recognized, and other citizens should work to make sure litter does not fill the water.
