... to the United Way and Red Cross

The United Way and Red Cross are giving residents a chance this weekend to go to Hedges-Boyer Park to donate "A Pint of Prayer for Healing Our Country." Participants can donate supplies, write messages for the rescue workers and talk about the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. It will take place noon-5 p.m. today and Sunday. The Tiffin-Seneca United Way and Red Cross are to be set up at The Barn in Hedges-Boyer Park.

... to Tiffin and Fostoria

Tiffin and Fostoria were recognized as two of the country's top 100 small towns by an economic development publication. Site Selection magazine named the cities as among the best over a 10-year period from 1989-1999, said Rich Focht, president of the Tiffin Area Chamber of Commerce and Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp. The rating was based on business creation and the success of existing businesses. Fremont, Bellevue, Upper Sandusky and Findlay also were in the top 100.

... and to an area D-Day veteran

Lawrence W. Basinger of Fostoria was among those from Northwest Ohio honored during a Monday afternoon ceremony for his part in the World War II invasion of Normandy. He received a certificate of appreciation from the French government. Qualifying veterans served in the Normandy Invasion Theater between June 6, 1944-May 8, 1945. Bernadette Grezes, deputy consul of France, also attended the ceremony, which was hosted by U.S. Rep. Paul E. Gillmor, R-Old Fort.
