Saturday hats off
Kid's Area a hit with youngsters
The new Kid's Area downtown during the Heritage Festival proved to be a place where the youngest festival goers and their parents enjoyed activities together. It was reported that at least a thousand youngsters and their families took advantage of the myriad of free activities offered. Most of the activities were free, and kids were seen running between the putt-putt golf course to hula hoops, from Oreo stacking to a puppet show.
Kuhn exhibited love for children
A love of children was the watchword of the career of Helen Kuhn, after 28 years of serving staff and students at the School of Opportunity. After delivering students from home to school and back via bus for several years, she served nutritious, hot lunches to the area's developmentally disabled youngsters during the past 16 years.
First-time blood donors needed
A tip of the hat to the people who have been turning out for recent bloodmobile visits in the area. Among them are the reliable and selfless donors who have been giving blood regularly for years, with individual totals as high as 20 gallons or more. What is needed are more first-time donors, to help get the nation's blood supply up to a sufficient level. The next opportunity will be a bloodmobile day 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 2 at Tiffin University.
