Prayer event yields material for rescuers

"A Pint of Prayer for Healing Our Country" last weekend in the Barn at Hedges-Boyer Park collected more than 1,000 items to send to the rescue workers in New York City, including 418 bottles of water, 334 pairs of socks and 18 bags of dog food. Tiffin-Seneca United Way and the local chapter of the American Red Cross sponsored the event. The Red Cross had collected $23,000 in monetary donations as of Sept. 20. It has received subsequent donations but the total has not been announced.

Tiffin Shrine Hornets celebrating 40 years

The Tiffin Shrine Club Zenobia Hornets will celebrate the 40th anniversary Sept. 29. The scooter-riding Hornets are a favorite in the many parades in which they are participants. The members always have fun, but they never lose sight of the Shriners' prime goal: no-cost health care and transportation to Shrine Hospitals for children suffering from burns or crippling disabilities.

Students at Krout send supplies to NYC

School supplies and teaching materials have been collected by Krout Elementary students and their families to help their New York City counterparts. Student Council adviser Louise Ducsay said they were told they could help students and teachers at two elementaries and one K-8 school. Forced to evacuate immediately because of their proximity to the World Trade Center, the teachers and students fled their buildings, leaving everything behind. Although they have been relocated, they still need supplies.
