Let's get anger under controlWe at The A-T heartily support gun control. Our general feeling is, anyone who owns a gun better keep it under control. We feel much the same way about anger. Everyone gets angry at times. There certainly are things going wrong in this world which should make anyone angry. Tuesday night, a program at the Family Learning Center taught parents how to show their kids ways to control their anger. A story on today's page 1A tells about the workshop; the lessons, of course, could work for people of any age. You're never too old to learn. Let's not overlook the importance of learning to managing anger, of maintaining self-control. Too often that very same front page has been occupied by stories of youths and adults who have gone on a shooting rampage. Gun control isn't the answer to that problem. Self-control is. This isn't a simplistic Just-Say-No solution. To gain control over anger, a person first must recognize what is causing it and then manage it. Sometimes anger can be channeled into a harmless outlet. Better still, the potential energy of anger can be harnessed for kinetic, constructive uses -- for example, dealing rationally with the source of the anger. It's the grown-up thing to do. Even if Mister Rogers has to show us how. NEWS I SPORTS I OBITS WEATHER I OPINIONS I CALENDAR All information and coding is protected by copyright. |
