Hohman is clear choice for mayor When Bernie Hohman became Tiffins' mayor four years ago, the city's growth had been minimal for decades. There was little available space for new housing or industry. Although plans were in the works for extending utilities outside the city limits, progress was slow. It was soon apparent after Hohman took office in January 1996 that the tempo had increased. Sewer lines branched out from the city. Development extended outward, also. And turmoil over potential annexation paved the way for a negotiated agreement with the townships. As Hohman runs for a second term, he cites the city/county/townships agreement on sewers and annexation as the top accomplishment of the past four years. We agree. It has set the stage for a boom in development in and around Tiffin. Hohman's Nov. 2 opponent, Alan Shind, has proposed some worthwhile ideas. Some of them -- especially in regard to aggressive marketing of Tiffin to potential industrial and commercial developers -- should be adopted, whoever is elected. But we see Hohman as the clear choice. The accomplishments of his first term -- including progress that far exceeds that of any four year period in recent memory -- portend more of the same in 2000-2003. A vote for Bernie Hohman is recommended on Nov. 2. NEWS I SPORTS I OBITS WEATHER I OPINIONS I CALENDAR All information and coding is protected by copyright. |
