Vote for levy is vote for health The Seneca County Health District, which provides a host of services that make life better and longer for county residents, is asking for the same taxation rate voters approved for it 10 years ago. A five-year, 0.3-mill replacement levy is on the Nov. 7 ballot. It would generate about $272,000 a year if approved, continuing one of the health department's sources of income. Among the services partially funded by the levy are dental clinics for residents without insurance; specialty clinics in areas such as cardiology and speech for any resident who needs them; infectious disease investigations; nuisance complaints; immunizations; adult flu clinics; and the supplies and staffing of nurses to work at clinics. There are more. All of them come together to comprise an overall effort to protect and enhance the health of county residents, from infants to senior citizens. To vote against this levy easily could be a vote against one's own best interests. County voters were wise to approve this issue 10 years ago and five years ago. They would be just as wise to do so again on Nov. 7. |
