Shuff is better of two good choices Because the proof is in the performance, we will never know whether Steve Shuff or Frank Marley Jr. was the better choice for common pleas court judge. We will only see one of them in action on the bench starting Jan. 2. And the way it usually works, the winner and Judge Michael Kelbley in the other common pleas position can be expected to be in office for a long time. We have seen and heard reasons to think both Shuff and Marley would perform well on the bench for Seneca County's citizens. Each, during interviews at The Advertiser-Tribune, pointed to the standard set for judges in this county by the late Harry Bozarth. Both Marley and Shuff aspired to strive for the same judicial wisdom and integrity displayed by Judge Bozarth. Each of the candidates can be proud of the fervent support voiced for them by people from a variety of perspectives across Seneca County. Residents of the county can count on having a good judge take office Jan. 2, regardless of the outcome on Nov. 3. But having the luxury of a good choice does not eleiminate the need for a decision. Seneca County would be best served if Shuff is elected on Tuesday. He has shown the temperament, attitude and maturity that should translate into the wisdom citizens should expect from their courts. Shuff has proven to be a dedicated and capable public servant as Seneca County prosecuting attorney. His public service has been even more extensive in his involvement in civic and charitable pursuits. We think Steve Shuff will meet the expectations the people of this county will have for their next common pleas judge.
