A chance for H-L to gain ... and for voters to save

Hopewell-Loudon has one of those tax issues on the ballot Nov. 7 for which it is difficult to see how anyone could vote "no."

The 5.3-mill levy first passed in 1997 is being proposed for another three years.

Besides the obvious need for the levy proceeds in order to continue the Hopewell-Loudon educational program, the levy committee has another selling point: The 5.3 mills is on the ballot as a replacement levy, and because of a millage rate reduction for a 1986 bond issue this year, the district would get more money for a lower total millage rate.

The 5.3 mills would generate $419,119 per year.

We'd recommend a vote for the levy. Hopewell-Loudon needs the money to educate its youngsters, and passage of the levy will not raise taxes.

Taxes would actually drop slightly, even with approval of the 5.3 mills.
