Air crash adds doubt to existing concerns No matter how the investigation into the tragic crash of EgyptAir Flight 990 turns out, a new doubt has been introduced into the worries that confront air travelers. It is one that probably will be permanent. Even if investigators in some way determine that suspicions about a co-pilot intentionally taking the plane down were unfounded, the seed has been planted. Persons about to make a trip by plane now can wonder about &emdash; besides potential hijackings, pilot fatigue, outdated air traffic control equipment, aging airliners and crowded air routes &emdash; the possibility that one of the cockpit crew may be a fanatic who would wreck the plane. The new doubt won't reduce the number of people flying. That will just keep growing. But it will add stress and fear to what at one time was a pleasant experience &emdash; making a trip by plane. It also could add to the cost of flying. When added security measures and background checks are needed, their cost has to come from the people who pay the bills. They are the people in the seats.
