Right way to leave is shown by sheriff
Without getting into anything bad that happened in the past, let's acknowledge that something good is transpiring now.
The transition of the Seneca County Sheriff's Office from the outgoing sheriff to his successor is occurring in an atmosphere of courtesy and respect.
The person who has the most to do with that climate is Sheriff H. Weldin Neff. He has provided office space and access to records and staff to Tom Steyer, the sheriff-elect.
Neff and Steyer have been attending budget meetings with other county officials together.
Neff is doing what we would suppose most people in the county would like to see, handing over the reins of elected office in such a way as to maintain county services at a high level during the transition.
We commend him for it and recommend the same approach for any other elected officials faced with leaving office.
