Saturday hats off

Many pitch in to help others

A tip of the hat to all the people who gave time, effort and money to the local endeavors that help families at Christmastime. From the Salvation Army to the organizations that collect toys, all these people made statements of action that told less fortunate people that others care.

Deluge of cards was appreciated

More than 300 people responded to a suggestion that cards be sent to A-T columnist Bob Harmon. Bob, who died Wednesday, and his family were heartened by the deluge of cards that arrived the week before Christmas. Anyone who saw how those cards were hung all around the living area in the Harmon home would realize how much they meant to the Harmons.

Students at Krout help counterparts

Students at Krout Elementary School collected pairs of shoes, in every size, for the children of Romania, where many families are so poor they need help with the basics of food and clothing. Bruce and Sandie Tanner, formerly of Tiffin, have been serving as missionaries in the country. They have established four homes, called Tanner Missions, for orphaned children suffering from mental and physical disabilities. The Krout students gathered shoes to help their counterparts in Eastern Europe.
