McComb handles St. Wendelin

FOSTORIA -- McComb took control after the first quarter and went on to down St. Wendelin, 51-35, Monday night.

The teams were deadlocked at 10-10 after eight minutes, but McComb had a 13-8 edge in the second quarter for a 23-18 lead at intermission. They added to the lead in the third quarter (12-8) and also had a 16-9 edge over the final eight minutes.

Leslie Schroeder had 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds for the winners. Ashlee Warren and Katie Pierce led the Mohawks with 10 points apiece and the latter also had seven caroms.

Warren and Melanie Saunders had solid floor games. Warren had four steals and three assists while Saunders had four assists and three steals.

Woodmore edges Lakota

KANSAS -- Woodmore battled back from a deficit in the final quarter for a 36-32 win over Lakota in Suburban Lakes League action Monday night.

Lakota, dropping to 8-4 overall and 7-3 in the SLL, had a 26-25 lead heading into the final quarter, but Woodmore had an 11-6 advantage. Ashley Guhn hit a big trey for the Wildcats and Amy Perkins knocked down four free throws.

Despite being held scoreless in the final quarter, Wendy Reiner scored 10 points to lead Woodmore and Perkins chipped in with seven.

Lakota was led by Renee Brickner with 14 points including all six scored by the Raiders in the last quarter. She also had seven rebounds.

''It was one tough game, both teams played very physical and aggressive defense,'' said Lakota head coach Dick Heller. ''Both teams had great game plans and both almost worked out. Our girls just didn't quite get it done at the end. We are very proud fo the way they played.''
