Two Tornadoes win Sunday matches at Clay

OREGON -- Allan Weickert won the 215-pound weight class and Max Tomaszewski was third at 145 in the Division I sectional at Oregon Clay.

Weickert was a 6-4 winner over Rick Legg of Fremont Ross in the finals. Tomaszewski was also an overtime winner in his final match, topping Keith Fisher of Ashland.

Also heading to the districts are Kris Adams (125) and Matt Murphy (135). Adams fell 4-3 in the finals to Perrysburg's Kevin Rabideau, and Murphy lost 17-10.

Joe Ranker lost his match at 189 to Ernie Weiler of Ashland, 9-0, Scott Ardner (112), fell 6-1 and Leo Hoerig (171) lost by default.

The districts will be at Hilliard Darby High School Friday and Saturday.

 

Jesse takes sectional title; six each move on for SW, Lakota

NORTHWOOD -- Doug Jesse major decisioned Woodmore's Billy Weiland, 14-4, to win the 119 pound class at the Northwood Division III Sectional and move on to the Fostoria District.

Three other area wrestlers fell in the finals. Lucas Hawkins of St. Wendelin placed second at 275 after being pinned by Sam Cotterman of Elmwood in 5:10, and teammate Josh Prince fell to Genoa's Rudy Lopez, 8-2, in the finals at 125. At 145, Lakota's Ken Brewer lost to Mike Shinaver of Genoa, 5-3, in the championship match.

Elmwood won the team title with 218 points, followed by Genoa (171), Lakota (147) and St. Wendelin (146 1/2). Cardinal Stritch was fifth with 119, Eastwood had 113 and Woodmore and Fremont St. Joseph tied for seventh with 105 1/2 points each.

Rounding out the field were Hopewell-Loudon (73), Gibsonburg (56), Toledo Christian (51), Arcadia (36), Northwood (35) and Calvert (19).

Calvert's lone district qualifier is Briton Kimmet at 160, who placed third with a 7-5 overtime decision of Andy Wagner of Elmwood. Hopewell-Loudon has three wrestlers joining Jesse at the district meet. Justin Arborgast finished third at 275 with a 3-2 win over Randy Minuto of Northwood, Josh Schalk was fourth at 103 with a 10-7 loss to Cody Sidle of St. Wendelin and Brad Smith lost in the third place match at 130, 7-2 to St. Wendelin's Jack Bugner.

Outside of Hawkins, Prince, Bugner and Sidle, St. Wendelin is sending Andy Kimes (152) and Joe Reinhart (171), both of whom were fourth place finishers. Kimes lost to Brian Jacobs of Lakota, 10-5, and Reinhart fell to Northwood's Bob Yockey by pin in 4:34.

Chris Stines, Lakota's 112-pounder, will join Brewer and Jacobs in Fostoria, as will Tim Ollom (119), Presley Bloom (125) and Brandon Racheter (135). Stines won his third place match over Josh Resendez of Genoa, 4-2, and Bloom won by technical fall, 18-3, to get third over Josh Simpson of Eastwood. Ollom lost 8-0 to Ben Solarik of Elmwood and Racheter fell 3-2 to Genoa's Braden Ruch.
