'Berg tennis team tops TU 8-1
Heidelberg College notched its second win of the season in women's tennis with a 8-1 victory over Tiffin University Tuesday.
The 'Berg, which is 2-5 heading into today's Ohio Athletic Conference opener at home against Mount Union, swept the three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches.
In doubles, the 'Berg won all three matches with Becca Timm and Kerri Destatte posting a 7-5, 6-3 win over Amy Coble and Elizabeth Wead at No. 1 while Melissa Williams and Lisa Sherck teamed up for a 6-1, 6-0 win over Liz Brandell and Martha Frentas at No. 2 and Nicole Thomas and Kelly Rothacker downed Jennifer Carter and Ashley Fritz, 6-2, 6-2.
Timm got Heidelberg rolling with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Wead at No. 1 singles while Sherck downed Brandell, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3, Thomas scored a 6-0, 6-0 win over Frentas at No. 4, Destatte scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jenna Emerich at No. 5 and Marsha Kramer topped Fritz, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
Tiffin, remaining winless at 0-4, got its only win at No. 2 singles as Coble downed Williams, 6-4, 6-2. The Dragons will travel to Ohio Northern University Thursday.
