Raiders drop 'Berg, 8-1

Heidelberg fell in its first Ohio Athletic Conference women's tennis match of the season, 8-1 to Mount Union.

The 'Berg (2-6, 0-1) got its only win in the fourth singles spot, where Nicole Thomas was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Dawn Harding.

All the other singles matches went to the Purple Raiders in straight sets. Sanje Patel beat Becca Timm (6-1, 6-0) and Naho Omae defeated Melissa Williams (6-1, 6-2). Kim Woodwrich stopped Lisa Sherck 6-1, 6-3 at third singles, Mary Beth Keeney beat Heidelberg's Kerri Destatte 6-1, 6-1 and Shannon Woodwort topped Marcia Kramer, 6-4, 6-0.

In doubles action, Patel and Omae beat Timm and Destatte 8-1, Woodwrich and Keeney won 8-1 over Sherck and Willams, and Woodwort and Harding got by Thomas and Kelly Rothacker 8-5.

Heidelberg goes to Adrian today.
