NEW RIEGEL -- Josh Dawson's infield single in the first inning was Fostoria's only hit of the night, and New Riegel pitcher Keith Laughlin struck out 12 to lead the Blue Jackets to a 2-0 win.
"We played good defense," Fostoria coach Brent Liskai said. "I was very happy with our pitching, but we just couldn't get after Laughlin. They scored those runs in the first inning, and Laughlin's so good that you can't get in a hole like that."
Laughlin walked three batters in his complete game win for New Riegel (2-0). Jason Wagner took the loss in 4 1/3 innings, getting five strikeouts and four walks. Cory Maag struck out three in 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief.
Offensively for New Riegel, Brett Hammer was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Jon Kauffman doubled. Dereck Uitto singled and scored, and Jason Humphrey had two hits and an RBI.
Fostoria is at Van Buren Monday. New Riegel is at home against Vanlue today.

ARCADIA -- Arcadia scored nine runs in the first four innings, and pitcher Chris Boone struck out 11 as the Redskins defeated Bettsville, 9-1.
Eddie Sisco doubled and scored a run for Bettsville, which makes up a suspended game against Gibsonburg Friday. Bettsville leads the game 8-5 after four innings.
"We've got to find somebody who can pitch well right out of the blocks to start the game," Bettsville coach Brian Coleman said. "Donnie (Lawrence) did a nice job against Gibsonburg, and hopefully we'll finish that game well. It'd be nice to knock Gibsonburg out of their own tournament. (Boone) threw a very nice breaking ball, and it froze a lot of our kids."
Sisco scored in the seventh inning on a single by Justin Harrison. Paul Yeakle, Jason Lee and Nick Baker added hits.
Sisco took the loss on the mound, walking five and striking out two in two innings. James Tyndall (two runs, three hits, one strikeout, two walks) and Jason Lee (one hit, two strikeout) each threw two innings of relief.

Brett Taylor took the loss for St. Wendelin (1-1) in three innings of work, getting two strikeouts and walking three. Jeremy Feasel and Brenton Duran also pitched.
"Woodmore's got a nice ball club," St. Wendelin coach Paul Feasel said. "They have several kids back from a team that was in the regionals last year. They've got a very good team, and we had some mental breakdowns, and when you get both of those together you're in trouble."
Jeremy Feasel had two hits and a run for the Mohawks, and Shannon Dixie had a run and two RBIs to go with his base hit. Nick Fondessy (RBI), Jon Noe (run) and Matt Saunders (run) added hits, and John Faber had an RBI.
Vanlue entertains St. Wendelin Saturday.
MT. BLANCHARD -- Carey had hard luck offensively in its opener against Riverdale, falling 8-0.
"Mentally, we had some mistakes," Carey coach Dennis Ruhe said. "It was a pleasant surprise how hard we hit the ball, but it was just a night where we hit it right at them. Three times we walked the leadoff batter, and all three times he scored."
Gabe Stansbery had a double and a single to lead Carey, and Shane Thompson, who took the loss on the mound, also doubled. Tyler Overbee had a base hit for the Blue Devils.
Jake Larbus was the winning pitcher, striking out four and walking three.
