Weyant sets Bobcat hurdle mark
ARCADIA -- Nate Weyant didn't wait long to set a school record.
Weyant was a double winner for Bettsville including a school-record 16.8 clocking in the 110 high hurdles at a triangular meet with McComb and Arcadia Tuesday. He also won the 300 intermediate hurdles with 43.3.
The Bobcats finished with 13 points in the boys meet, trailing McComb (77) and Arcadia (44).
Chris Barnes was the only other placer for the Bettsville boys, taking third in the 800 meter run with 2:49 and finishing fourth in the 400 dash with 1:09.6.
Laura Sisco claimed the only first for the Bettsville girls with a 20.1 in the 100 meter hurdles.
The Bobcats finished with 23 points, trailing McComb (69) and Arcadia (53).
Freshman Jenna Devanna had a pair of seconds including the long jump (13-11 1/2) and 200 meter dash (30.0).
The team of Ashleigh Valentine, Angie Bingle, Angie Broski and Laura Sisco also took runner-up honors in the 4 x 100 meter relay with 1:09. Valerie Stump took third place in the 1600 (6:46) and 800 (3:06) and Sisco took fourth with 1:08.1.
NORWALK -- It was a split for Calvert in the season-opening track meet Tuesday at Whitney Field.
The Senecas won the boys meet, 71-56, while the St. Paul girls prevailed, 70.5-57.5.
Calvert boys were paced by the Hammer brothers as Matt and Brad were involved in five firsts. Matt won the 800 in 2:06, the high jump at 5-4 and teamed with Todd Iannantuno, Ryan Schumm and Phillip Smith to win the 4 x 400 relay in 3:42. Brad won the 400 in 52.8 and teamed with Joe Cole, Mike Smith and Matt Pastorella to win the 4 x 800 relay in 9:39.7.
The Senecas also had three other firsts as Iannantouno won the long jump with 19-4, Pastorella won the 1600 in 5:12.6 and Cole won the 3200 in 10:48.
Sheena Werling was a triple winner for the Calvert girls with victories coming in the high jump (4-10), the 100 meter dash (13.6) and 200 (29.7).
Three other Senecas were involved in a pair of wins. Ashley Deats won the 400 in 1:05.3 while Sabrina Seitz won the long jump at 14-3 1/2 and Sara Riley won the shot put at 31-9 1/2. The three also teamed with Sara Sacksteder to win the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:39.3.
OAK HARBOR -- Matt Rickard and Eric Swaisgood paced Lakota boys in their season opener against Oak Harbor Tuesday.
Rickard and Swaisgood were each involved in three firsts as the Raiders topped rival Oak Harbor, 69-63.
Swaisgood won the 800 in 2:03.8 and doubled up with a time of 4:45.2 in the 1600. Rickard won the 100 in 12.0 and doubled with a jump of 22-0 3/4 in the long jump. The two also teamed with Keith Baker and Trent Tucker to win the 4 x 400 relay in 3:39.9.
The Raiders also had three other firsts including Brandon Dixie in the 110 high hurdles (17.5), Ken Brewer in the pole vault (11-0) and Matt Wonderly in the high jump (5-6).
Lakota girls picked up just five firsts in a 90-37 loss to Oak Harbor.
Wendy Fraley led the Raiders. She was a triple winner with victories coming in the 100 hurdles (17.6), the high jump (4-10) and long jump (16-0 1/2).
Rachel Chaney was a double winner for Lakota with a toss of 33-5 in the shot put and throw of 104-4 in the discus.
ATTICA -- It was a sweep for Seneca East in the Tri-County Meet Tuesday.
The Tigers won the boys meet with 199 points, followed by Mohawk and South Central with 75, Plymouth with 54, Monroeville with 49 and Old Fort with 25.
In the girls meet, it was the Tigers with 133 while Mohawk was close behind with 120, followed by Monroeville with 82, South Central with 64, Plymouth with 53 and Old Fort with 35.
Seneca East claimed 11 of 16 firsts in the boys meet including a sweep of the three relays including the 4 x 800 in 8:44.7, the 4 x 100 in 46.4 and 4 x 400 in 3:37.5.
The Tigers had a pair of wins in the field events as John Ball won the long jump at 19-0 1/2 and Kory Siesel won the pole vault at 12-6.
In the running events, the Tigers got a double win from Mike Schock in the 110 high hurdles (16.7) and 300 intermediates (40.7).
Other firsts by Seneca East included Scott Elmlinger in the 1600 with 4:48.2, Jarrod Schaaf with 52.4 in the 400, Garry Cline with 24.0 in the 200 and Wayne Carrick with 10:29.9 in the 3200.
Mohawk's Mike Haynes also won the high jump at 5-10.
Seneca East had six firsts in the girls meet including wins in the 4 x 800 relay (11:17.6), 4 x 200 relay (1:57) and 4 x 100 relay (56.4).
Other wins by the Tigers included Ashley Martin in the high jump at 4-8, J. Herr in the 100 (13.6) and Mandy Everhart in the 300 hurdles (51.6).
Mohawk had two firsts including Kim Arbogast in the 100 hurdles with 17.6 and Abby Ward in the 1600 with 6:13.7.
KENTON -- Upper Sandusky opened with a sweep of Kenton Tuesday.
The Rams won the girls meet, 102-25, and doubled up with a 62-57 win in the boys meet.
Upper girls won 15 of 16 events it the girls meet including a sweep of the running events.
In the field events, the Rams got wins from Chasity Montgomery in the long jump (15-7 1/2), Emily Herring in the high jump (5-1) and Meghan Horn in the shot put (34-8 1/2).
The Rams swept the four relays as Kathy Werre, Herring, Jessica Falk nad Danielle Gottfried won the 4 x 800 in 10:24.3, the team of Sarah Gottfried, Mindy Glick, Montgomery and B. Glick won the 4 x 200 (1:57.7), the team of S. Gottfried, M. Glick, Montgomery and B. Glick won the 4 x 100 (55.1) and the team of Werre, Herring, Falk and D. Gottfried won the 4 x 400 in 4:27.2.
Other firsts by Upper included Amy Oehlers in the 100 hurdles (19.6), B. Glick in the 100 (13.8), Werre in the 1600 (5;58.5), D. Gottfried in the 400 (1:02.9), Montgomery in the 300 hurdles (54.1), Werre in the 800 (2:34.8), D. Gottfried in the 200 (27.2) and Lori Gogard in the 3200 (14:27.2).
Keith Montgomery was a triple winner for the Upper boys. He won the 100 in 11.6, the 200 in 24.1 and the long jump with 17-10.
Other firsts by the Rams included Jason Lemire in the 110 high hurdles (16.1) and 400 dash (54.3) while Daner won the high jump at 5-4, Aaron Lambert won the 1600 in 5:00.1 and the 3200 in 10:58.4 and Hensel won the discus with 129-9. Also, the team of Lemire, Danner, Mike Moranville and Bailey won the 4 x 400 in 3:51.3.
FOSTORIA -- St. Wendelin picked up a tri-meet victory after scoring 67 points compared to Liberty-Benton's 62 and Fostoria's 38.
In the field events, St. Wendelin's Brad Welly won the long jump at 19-8.
The Mohawks dominated the running events as the team of Matt Smith, Mark Smith, Matt Urbanski, and Jerod Guillen won the 4 x 800 meter relay in 8:36.60. In the 1600 meters, Mike Smith won in the time of 4:47.05 while Guillen came back to win the 800 meters in the time of 2:07.30.
Urbanski struck again in the 3200 meters winning in the time of 10:13.29.
Fostoria's Corey Echelberry dominated the throwing events as he won the shot with a throw of 55'2" and came right back to win the discus with a throw of 172', fifty feet longer than the nearest competitor.
On the girls side, Liberty-Benton dominated the competition with 116 points compared to Fostoria's 25 and St. Wendelin's 23.
Liberty-Benton won all of the events, but Mohawk's Dawn Kresser was second in the 200 meters in the time of 29.28 while Cara Fry finished third in the 100 meters at 13.83.
