Rau fires two-hitter at NB
OLD FORT -- Erin Rau struck out 12, walked just one and played a big part in handing North Baltimore it's first MAL loss at the hands of Old Fort, 8-0.
Rau limited North Baltimore (8-4, 4-1 MAL) to just two hits, a singles by Holly Emahiser and Ashley Mills. Rau improved to 5-2 with the win, while Ricci Mills (four strikeouts, four walks) took the loss.
Rau helped her own cause at the plate, getting a triple and a single, a run and an RBI for Old Fort (5-3, 3-1 MAL). Heather Webb scored a run and had two RBIs on two hits, one of which was a double that came during a five-run second inning for OF. Another double came from Breena McCool (run, RBI).
Jenny Seigley had a run and two RBIs with a single, and Cassandra Frankart (run) and Rosy Ortiz added run-scoring hits. Jennice Egbert scored two runs and Rachel McCalla added one.
"Our pitching was very good today, and we seemed to hit the ball well," Old Fort coach Ron Rau said. "We only had two errors, and that's alright for as cold as it was."
The Stockaders play host to Fremont St. Joseph Wednesday.
SYCAMORE -- Mohawk improved to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the MAL with a 10-5 win over Carey (2-6, 1-3).
"The weather was something else, but our defense hung in there and we kept our hitting going," Mohawk coach Jenny Weinandy said. "Things got sort of scary at the end with them scoring four runs in the seventh, but we hung in there."
Jodi Stevens (3-2) was the winning pitcher, getting six strikeouts and walking eight in a complete game. Lindsay Caudill took the loss.
Mohawk had 11 hits, including two each by Maggie Phillips (double, RBI) and Deanna Kirian (two runs). Amy Fox tripled, scored a run and had an RBI, and Stefanie Pauley (two runs) and Julia Hannam (run) had a hit and two RBIs each.
Katie Lust had a hit and two runs for the Warriors, Amanda Payne and Ashley Walton both singled and scored, and Jodi Stevens added a hit.
Offensively for Carey, Erin Roark drove in three runs and had a base hit. Molly Zender had a single and an RBI, Darcie Fredritz had a run to go with her hit and Kara Ward also singled. Kelly Risner scored two runs.
Carey hosts Fostoria Thursday, and Mohawk is off until April 26, when it goes to Hopewell-Loudon for an MAL test.
