TU too much for Heidelberg
Heidelberg dropped to 2-10 and Tiffin avenged two earlier season losses with a 7-2 win over its cross-town rival.
''It's amazing that Heidelberg and Tiffin haven't been allowed to play each in other for so long,'' Tiffin coach Bonnie Tiell said. ''I think everyone likes things better the way they are now. It's kind of neat playing them. They had some people missing, but it's nice to get a win and now everyone on our team has won at least one match.''
Tiffin took four of six singles matches. At first singles, Kristin Martinet was ahead of Kerri Destatte, 6-4, 2-1, before Destatte defaulted due to an injury. At second singles, Amy Coble was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Lisa Sherck and Dawn Dalhamer of Tiffin defeated Misty Trost at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-2.
Heidelberg got a win at fourth singles as Marcia Kramer beat Keri Baldock, 6-3, 6-3, but Tiffin won the fifth singles match as Liz Brandell topped Sara Creque, 6-1, 6-4. Val Perez got Heidelberg's second and final win at sixth singles, beating Nancy Hopkins, 6-3, 6-1.
At first doubles, Coble and Martinet of Tiffin defeated Sherck and Trost, 6-3, 6-1. At second doubles, Baldock and Brandell won over Creque and Denise Pekarcik 6-1, 7-5, and at third doubles, Hopkins and Autumn Miller defeated Perez and Sami Haught 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2).
Today Heidelberg travels to Ohio Northern to try to notch its first victory in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
