Columbian sweeps Galion

GALION -- Columbian boys and girls combined to grab 23 firsts in a sweep of Galion Tuesday.

Columbian boys remained unbeaten against Northern Ohio League teams with a 96-34 romp past the Tigers and the Tornadoes won the girls meet, 77-51.

Wayne LeGrant was a double winner for the Columbian boys, winning the long jump (21-0 1/2) and 110 high hurdles (16.2).

The Tornadoes swept the three relays with the team of Andrew Greene, Ryan Hinkle, Dan Moyer and Drew Hanley winning the 4 x 800 in 8:44.5, the team of LeGrant, Chris Brooks, Todd Focht and Jeremiah Johnson won the 4 x 100 in 45.5 and the team of Aaron Post, Hanley, Dan Moyer and Eric Hall won the 4 x 400 in 3:36.6

Other firsts by the Columbian boys included Josh Paul with a season-best 6-4 in the high jump, Dan Picciuto with a leap of 12-6 in the pole vault, Aaron Post with 4:43.7 in the 1600, Nate Nahm with 53.4 in the 400, Focht with 41.9 in the 300 intermediate hurdles, Hanley with 1:58.2 in the 800 and Derrick Brown with 10:51.7 in the 3200.

"Our good people continue to improve and our others keep making big strides," said Columbian head coach Brian Jakupca. "Drew's 800 was very good and his best open of the year although he's run fast splits on the relay. Josh tied a personal best in the high jump and Ritchie Martin was well over his previous best in the pole vault (second at 12-6) and Brown won the 3200 for the first time."

Emily Gosche was involved in four firsts to lead the Columbian girls. She won the 100 in 13.1, the 200 in 28.8, teamed with Karen Lonsway, Jenny Roe and Renee Kirby to win the 4 x 200 relay in 1:56.7 and teamed with Lonsway, Brandi Griffin and Jenni Ziegler to win the 4 x 100 relay in 55.7.

Other firsts by the Tornadoes included Kati Fraley with 106-8 in the discus, Sarah Hershey with 14-5 1/8 in the long jump, Betsy Kirby with 4-6 in the high jump, Ziegler with 16.2 in the 100 hurdles, Kelly Babcock with 6:25.0 in the 1600, Roe with 1:07.6 in the 400 and the team of Waldock, Renee Kirby, Lara Ellinger and Roe in the 4 x 400 relay with 4:33.2.

 

St. Wendelin downs Margaretta

CASTALIA &emdash; St. Wendelin boys and girls took different routes to beating Margaretta Tuesday.

The Mohawks won the boys meet, 73-59, with Luis Cortell leading the way with a double win in the 100 (11.5) and 800 (2:06.4).

St. Wendelin girls closed strong to top the Polar Bears. A sweep of the 800 and 1-2 finishes in the 200 and 3200 and a win in the 4 x 400 relay enabled the Mohawks to score 30 points in the last four events.

In addition to Cortell, other St. Wendelin wins in the boys event included Brian Huber in the high jump, the team of Jerod Guillen, Dominic Krupp, Mike Smith and Matt Urbanski in the 4 x 800 relay, Urbanski in the 1600, Welly in the 300 intermediate hurdles, Mike Smith in the 3200 and the team of Aaron Lininger, Guillen, Huber and Cortell in the 4 x 400 relay.

St. Wendelin girls only had three firsts until the final four events. Bobbie Zimmerman won the high jump, Jolene Faeth won the 1600 and the team of Emily Krupp, Teresa Zach, Faeth and Audra Reinhard won the 4 x 800 relay.

Down the stretch, the Mohawks got victories from Faeth in the 800, Dawn Kresser in the 200, Reinhard in the 3200 and the team of Krupp, Zimmerman, Faeth and Kresser in the 4 x 400 relay.

 

North Baltimore wins MAL tri-meet

NORTH BALTIMORE &emdash; North Baltimore boys and girls each won a triangular meet against Midland Athletic League foes New Riegel and Bettsville Tuesday.

The Tigers won the boys meet with 70 points while New Riegel followed with 38 and Bettsville had 27.

Nate Weyant was a triple winner for Bettsville with victories in the 110 high hurdles (17.0), 300 intermediate hurdles (42.9) and 200 (24.6) while Brad Schlachter was a double winner for New Riegel with wins coming in the 100 (12.2) and 400 (58.1).

In the girls meet, North Baltimore finished with 55 points to slip past New Riegel (49) and Bettsville (40).

Sabrina Reinhart and Leslie Reinhard were double winners for New Riegel. Reinhart won the shot put (26-9) and high jump (4-4) while Reinhard prevailed in the 400 (1:08.9) and 200 (29.6).

The Blue Jackets had two other firsts as Andrea Shine won the 300 low hurdles and the team of Nicole Schalk, Amy Bumb and Reinhart won the 4 x 200 relay.

Jenna DeVanna was a double winner for Bettsville. She won the long jump at 11-6 and doubled with 13.5 in the 100.

 

Lakota boys win, girls second in quad

KANSAS &emdash; Jimmie Ganues and Trent Tucker led the way as Lakota boys won a quad meet Tuesday.

The Raiders scored 93.5 points while Woodmore was next with 70, Genoa had 59.5 and Hopewell-Loudon trailed with 19.

Ganues won the long jump at 17-9 and joined with Matt Wonderly, Brandon Dixie and Tucker to win the 4 x 100 relay in 46.9. Tucker won the 800 in 2:08.2 and was also part of the 4 x 400 relay as the team of Jeremy Miller, Bill Stafford and Will Windom won the event in 3:50.8. Chris Jacquot also won the 300 hurdles in 45.5.

Hopewell-Loudon picked up its lone win early as Andy Hiser won the shot put with a toss of 46-8 1/2.

Woodmore won the girls meet with 117.5 points while Lakota was second with 57, the Chieftains took third with 41.5 and Genoa was last with 24.

Wendy Fraley was a double winner for Lakota with victories in the long jump (15-1 1/2) and 100 hurdles (15.8) while Heather Myers won the shot put with a toss of 32-9 1/2.

 

Upper girls crush Shelby, boys lose

SHELBY &emdash; Danielle Gottfried and Chasity Montgomery paced Upper Sandusky girls to a 100-32 rout of Shelby Tuesday.

Gottfried and Montgomery were each involved in four firsts.

Gottfried won the 100 in 12.8, the 400 in 1:00.0 and the 200 in 27.2 and teamed with Kathy Werre, Emily Herring and Jessica Falk on the 4 x 400 relay in 4:13.5.

Montgomery won the long jump at 15-1 1/2, won the 300 hurdles in 50.8 and joined with Mindy Glick, Jessica Brodman and Becky Glick to win the 4 x 200 (1:52.2) and 4 x 100 (52.6) relays.

Other firsts by the Rams included Meghan Horn in the shot put, Mindy Glick in the discus, Herring in the high jump, the team of Werre, Herring, Angie Beeler and Falk in the 4 x 800 relay and Werre in the 800.

Shelby handled the Upper Sandusky boys, 100-32.

The Rams had four firsts by Josh Hensel in the discus, Keith Montgomery in the long jump, Jason Lemire in the high hurdles and Aaron Lambert in the 3200.

 

Fostoria boys, girls fall in GLL tri-meet

BEDFORD, Mich. &emdash; Cory Echelberry continued to excel in the weights, but was one of the few bright spots for Fostoria in a triangular meet Tuesday.

He won the shot put (57-9 1/2) and discus (180-3 1/2) for the Redmen boys, who had 28.5 points. Whitmer led with 77 and Bedford had 60.5.

Jameson Botimer also won the pole vault for the Redmen with 11-0.

In the girls meet, the team of Chelsea Zoll, Erika Heiser, Sandy Frisch and Dee Dee Depp won the 4 x 800 relay in 10:31.5 for the only first by Fostoria which had just 20 points. Whitmer won with 89 and Bedford had 55.
