Lakota ties Gibsonsburg in SLL
TONTOGANY -- Five years after starting a softball program from scratch, Lakota finished the 1999 season with a piece of the Suburban Lakes League title after coasting past Otsego 11-3 Tuesday.
Freshmen Kristen Lentz and Jessica Rupright led the offense, with Lentz singling and doubling to drive in three runs while Rupright collected two RBI off two singles.
Crystal Miller and Maria Lowery each added two singles, Renee Chaney singled home a run and Jenny Bomer and Lacey Hager both had singles.
Sophomore Ashley Lockmiller fanned six and scattered five hits to cap a 20-4 season.
The team, which advanced to the Division III district finals, ends the year 22-5 while going 12-4 in the SLL to tie Gibonsburg for the title.
The Raiders were fourth in the SLL last year with an 8-8 record while going 10-15 overall.
