Two area players named to Division IV All-Ohio softball team

They led their teams to a tie for the Midland Athletic League crown, and now they've been named to the Division IV All-Ohio softball team.

Old Fort's Erin Rau and Kate Gase of Hopewell-Loudon both guided their teams to an 8-1 MAL finish on their way to being named to the Division IV All-Ohio first team.

Also earning state honors was Randi Whitman of Old Fort, who was an honorable mention selection.

Rau led the MAL with a 0.91 ERA and 127 strikeouts over 138 innings on the way to an 18-3 record. She was also a force on offense, hitting .319 with seven doubles, three triples and 30RBI while scoring 24 runs.

Gase was tops in the league with her .595 average and 46 runs. She also drilled six doubles, five triples and four homers en route to driving in 29 runs and scoring 50 times. She also tallied 17 steals.

Whitman batted .385 with nine doubles and four triples to drive in 12 runs.
