On the Diamond
Winning pitcher Ryan Clouse struck out 10 batters and also cracked two singles at the plate to fuel Tiffin Amvets' 4-1 win over Tiffin Eagles. Dan Lutz doubled for the winners and Tom Berry singled. For Eagles, Tony DeMonte had a pair of hits and Dan Breyman (double), Dustin Ritchie (double), Justin Sauber and Adam Reinhart contributed one each.
Zac Ball and Anthony Evers both doubled home a run and Richie Cline had a run-scoring single as Eagles slipped by Minute Print 5-4. Ball also had two singles while Evers and winning pitcher Cory Hess both singled. Minute Print got a two-run single by Brian Saylor, a triple and single by Adam Sherer and two singles by Eric Vanover. Ashley Carter added an RBI single.
Hopewell-Loudon broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the second, but New Riegel tied it up in the bottom of the inning and then plated eight more runs over the next four innings to cruise to a 9-1 win. Jason Humphrey picked up the win, fanning six and scattering five hits over six innings. He also singled. Ronnie Shellhammer carried the big stick, driving in three off a single and double. Jacob Smith had 2RBI on a single and double. Paul Borer drilled two singles and a double, Dereck Uitto and Brett Hammer, who pitched the last inning, each doubled home a run and Scott Williams doubled. Hopewell-Loudon's Josh Tyler had an RBI double. Doug Jesse Doubled and Scott Elchert and Neil Harber, who suffered the loss, each singled.
The Tiffin Titans jumped out 2-0 in the first and never looked back in a 29-6 thumping of Mohawk Black. Zack Fowler doubled and picked up the win, thanks in part to Corey Peacock's two homers and Brad Jacobs' three doubles and home run. Adam Haman also homered and singled twice while Joel Dickerson had two singles and a double. Corey Decker singled twice, Richie Gilbert singled and doubled, Trent Shoemaker drilled a two-bagger and Tim Spencer and Tyler Shuff each singled. Mohawk got a double by Zack Kurtz and a single by Sean Tooley.
K of C had only two hits, but outlasted Rotary 5-1. Aaron McQuestion and Brandon Burner each doubled for K of C. Rotary had just three hits, a triple by Thomas Fox and a single each by Aaron Mass and Chris Snavely.
Old Fort Bank plated five in the top of the fifth, then withstood a Napoli rally to escape with a 7-6 victory. Old Fort scored a run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 2-all, then went ahead for good in the fifth. However. Napoli scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and three more in the sixth before being held scoreless in the seventh. Thomas Osborne drilled a single and double for Old Fort Bank while Dan Hartman had two singles. Caleb Saad, Mike Grothaus and Tyler Chaney each singled. Napoli was led by Ryan Smith's double and single while Josh Coger tripled and Ben Shuff singled.
Cory Holzhauser and Billy Noonan had quite a day on the diamond. They each belted two homers and a double and teamed up to twirl a no-hitter as the Tigers mauled the Diamondbacks 20-0. Dustin Krupp added a home run and two doubles, Derron Kummerer tripled and had two singles and Nick Williams slapped two doubles and a single. John Hall doubled and Cody Young, Cory Laibe, Anna Williams and Britny Rodriguez each singled.
The Royals belted 10 hits in a 10-0, lightning-shortened victory over the Athletics. Matt Glick led the Royals charge with a home run while Dayne Williams and Spencer Williams, who also earned the win, both had a single and double. Vincent Grandillo and Justin Latona each doubled and Billy Puesey, Joel Ardner and Austin Kommick all singled. Matt Bowen blasted two homers to drive in all three of the Athletics' runs.
Old Fort turned three double plays but lost 16-11 to St. Wendelin. Brihanna Myers picked up the win and added a triple and single for St. Wendelin. Caitlyn Fondessy and Jessica Sexton both had a pair of singles while Kristie Ward, Sarah Brady and Kaylee Madden all singled. Old Fort got a double from Bailey Margraff and singles from Toni Baker, Jenny Kline, Cara Bass, Stacey Straub and Samantha Dull.
Bloomville moved to 3-0 after doubling up New Riegel I by a 10-5 score. Skyla Sims smacked a double and three singles for Bloomville while Megan Florence singled three times. Olivea Diekman doubled and Jessica Summers and Aliceon Boone each singled. Florence, Sims and Diekman shared the pitching duties. New Riegel got a pair of singles apiece from Rachael Arbogast and Kimber Lucius. Kari Smith, Jackie Reinhart, Megan Ellis and Shelby Bakies had a single each.
Three players had a pair of singles as Viewpoint Graphics downed Tiffin Hardware 11-5. Lindy Whitmer, Amanda Brown and Anne Kerschner collected the multiple hits. Merissa Conley added a double and Tori Foster, Shauna New, Ashley Hoeff, Patti McClintock, Kati Covell and Kylee Sexton all singled. Tiffin Hardware had seven singles off the bats of Katie Chwalik, Dana Olinger, Krista Zeigler, Jessica Palmer, Mindy Hackenburg, Jenna Hackenburg and Andrea Andersons.
Alyssa Sprau fanned six and drove in the game-winning run as Kiwanis edged United Insurance 11-10. Lisa Sibenaller added a homer for Kiwanis while Holly Biller, Sam Fabian, Angela Hitchcock and Alex Kirian each singled. United Insurance was led by Lauren Misner's two singles and Rebecca Coil's double. Lydia Martin, Emily Scherger, Michelle Sikora, Audrey Thacker, Erika Walker, Nicole Weininger, Marissa Davis, Jennifer Jordan and Becca Kobelt all singled.
AMVETS used a four-run first inning to propel itself to a 9-5 win over Moose. Faith Martin gave AMVETS a home run and single while Jodi Graham and Jenny Albert each doubled. Krista Miller, Samantha Sauber and winning pitcher Marisa Conley all singled. Natasha Carpenter smashed a homer, triple and double for Moose. Heather Tusing had three singles while Maria Kolbe, Marliesa Zimmerman and Michelle Burd each hit two singles. Carissa Carpenter and Kendra Dosh both had a single.
Moose scored in five of the six inning it played in a 13-4 victory over Old Fort/Scott's BP. Jenny Watson laced two singles to help Carissa Carpenter earn the win. Heather Tusing, Natasha Carpenter, Marliesa Zimmerman and Missy Alford each singled. Old Fort got a triple and single from Tasha Hiser, a double from Amanda Shumaker and a single each from Jessica Sharp and Amber Hill.
Stansanco scored nine in the third and 11 in the fifth en route to rolling over AMVETS 27-4. Amber Schowchow blasted homer for Stansanco.
