BASEBALL
E League
Chris Frederick hit a clutch two-run single to guide the Yankees past the Indians 5-3 and into the E League Tournament finals. The Yankees battle the Orioles for the title today at 10 a.m. Mark Dornaur added a triple and single, Chris Sauber doubled and singled and winning pitcher Aaron Banks singled twice. Tim Feasel earned the save. The Indians got a double and single each from Josh Smith and Aaron Rider. Zach Hefner added a single.
Pony League
Strong pitching helped Clinton notch a pair of wins including a 17-5 victory over New Riegel and 8-1 win over Attica. In the win over Attica, Wade Bogard pitched a one-hitter with Hahler getting a pinch-hit, leadoff single up the middle to start the seventh inning for the only hit. Bogard struck out nine and gave up one unearned run in the first inning. C.J. Kisabeth had a double and single to drive in three runs for Clinton, now 6-10, while Cody Hufford had a pair of singles, Bogard drove in a run with a single, Nick Bishop had a base hit and Greg Wilhelm had a single for the go-ahead RBI. Ricky Donaldson got his first win in his first start with a three-hitter against New Riegel. Hufford had a double and triple to drive in a run while Kisabeth had a triple and single for two RBIs, Bogard singled twice for four runs, Donaldson had a double and three RBIs and Bishop had a pair of singles to drive in a run. Andy Smith, Tyson Depinet and John Dosh each singled for New Riegel.
D League
The Knights of Columbus scored the winning run in the last of the sixth for an 8-7 win over Rotary to take fourth place in the double-elimination tournament. Tiffany Bell had a double and two singles and Brandon Burner had three singles to pace the K of C. Seth Carter, Josh Florence and Cory McGuice each added a single and Carter was the winning pitcher. Rotary got a home run, triple and double from Mike Johnson while Ryan Komick, Jacob Brose and Matt Ryan each singled.
E League Correction
One name was omitted from the Tigers, who finished second in the E League after losing to the Reds. Anna Williams was a member of the Tigers.
SOFTBALL
Ponytail Senior
Viewpoint scored seven runs in the first inning and raced to a 20-3 win over Elks in the league championship game. Handling the pitching duties for the champions were Lindy Whitmer and Merissa Conley. Ashley Hoepf had a triple and two singles while Conley had four singles, Anne Kerschner had a double and two singles and Tori Foster added three base hits. Shauna New, Whitmer and Heidi Sheppard each had a pair of singles and Kylee Sexton added a base hit. Other members of the championship team wewre Katie Covell, Danielle Burns, Patti McClintock and Sayna King. The Elks got a double and single from Ashlee Schmeltz, two singles from Mary Kate Hayes and a double from Amanda Ranieri while Rachel Maiberger, McKenzie Frank, Samantha Ritzler, Laura Snyder, Sarah Elchert, Elizabeth Kelbley and Kassie Young each had a base hit. Earlier, the Elks edged Viewpoint, 12-9, with Elchert leading the way with a home run and a grand slam home run. Mollie Martin also had a triple while Maiberger, Ranieri, Ritzler and Hayes each had two singles and Kelbley and Schmeltz each singled. Viewpoint got a home run and triple from Whitmer along with two singles from Hoepf and Foster and a single apiece from New, Conley, Burns and Kerschner.
