SE boys set record in decathlon meet
It was a record-setting effort for five members of the Seneca East boys track team which participated in the Dalton Decathlon Meet.
Mike Hanson and Scott Elmlinger each eclipsed the Seneca East senior decathlon record while Justin Ruffing set a new mark for sophomores and Ryan Bogner did the same for the freshman class. Junior Jordan Schank also participated in the meet and Ed Phillips competed in the alumni division.
Hanson piled up 4,738 points which qualified him for the national meet which will be held in El Paso, Tex., next month. Any participant who goes over 4,500 points becomes eligible for the national meet.
Elmlinger, who will be competing in the cross country and track at Heidelberg College in the fall, also went past the senior school record with a total of 4,435 points. He also set a new meet record in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:22.5.
Ruffing set the sophomore record with a score of 4,162 points and Bogner set a new freshman record with 3,125.
The Dalton met is the only nationally-sanctioned decathlon meet in Ohio.
