Tornadoes find it rough in NOL

Columbian's youth showed up at the Bucyrus Country Club as the Tornadoes finished eighth in the eight team Northern Ohio League Tournament.

Shelby won the event with a 342 while host Bucyrus was six strokes behind with a 348. Norwalk (356) Bellevue (357), Upper Sandusky (362), Galion (363), Willard (364) and Columbian (388).

Upper Sandusky, which won the NOL last season, was led by Dave Gibson (82) and Nat Ulrich (88). Matt Parsell and Tyler McEldowny each shot a 96, Rory McCarthy shot a 107 and Jeremy Wolf finished with a 118.

Casey Putsch tied for ninth overall by shooting an 87 for Columbian and Chris Meyer fired a 95. Ryan Wertz and Pete Grangaard shot 103 each and Donny Thompson carded a 107.

''We started four sophomores and we've got a lot of inexperience,'' Columbian first-year coach Kirk Kayden said. ''It's tough to start off this way. I just want us to get better as a team as these tournaments go along. We didn't give up.''

Area golfers kick off season with Wildcat Invitational

TOLEDO - Calvert placed eighth, St. Wendelin ninth, Bettsville 11th and Old Fort 12th in the Woodmore Wildcat Invitational at Sugar Creek Golf Course.

Perrysburg won the event by shooting a 326, followed by Elmwood (328), Gibsonburg (333), Woodmore Gold (333), Genoa (333), Maumee Valley Country Day (334), Liberty-Benton (339), Calvert (351), St. Wendelin (358), Woodmore Blue (367), Bettsville (386) and Old Fort (429).

Andy Inkrott of Elmwood took home medalist with a 78.

Calvert was paced by an 80 from Charlie Ehrenfried and an 84 from Eric Lee. Mark Kimmet shot a 80, Alex Plotts a 97 and Bill Krzyzak a 102.

Andrew Diab (82) and Jeff Koss (89) were in the 80's for the Mohawks. Andy Shock (92), Jonathan Noe (95) and Ryan Smith (98) also played.

Joe Kizer's 90, Nick Baker's 91 and a 99 from Jon Rollins led Bettsville. Derrick Craun shot a 106 and Donald Lawrence shot a 121.

Tucker medals in Lakota win

FOSTORIA - Trent Tucker was the medalist with an 85 and Lakota beat Fostoria in a season-opening dual, 350-363.

Brad Youngs was right behind Tucker with an 86 for the Raiders, and Steve Adams finished with an 88. A.J. Howe (91), Andy Beaston (99) and Matt Capel (104) rounded out the Raider roster.

Max Mendoza was the top Fostoria golfer with an 87, and Alan Holman carded a 90. Adam Schwab and Tony Holman had 93's, Michael Durbin a 96 and Nate Hammer a 99.
