Columbian fifth at Fostoria Invitational

The Columbian golf team finished fifth (367) in a field of eight teams at the Fostoria Invitational Monday.

Eastwood had a team total of 328, good enough to capture the title. Napoleon's Josh Russell earned tournament medalist honors with the low score on the day (77), while his team finished second (336).

Swanton came in third with a 341, St. Wendelin was fourth (351), Fostoria sixth (370), Hopewell-Loudon seventh (384) and Lakota took the ninth spot with 391.

Donny Thompson led the Tornadoes, carding an 87. Chris Meyer shot 91, Pete Grangaard had a 93 and Mike Everhart came in at 96.

Tommy Kemp just missed scoring in the 70s for St. Wendelin. He finished with an 80. Jeff Koss had an 88. Jon Noe shot 89 and Steve LeForge carded 94. Ryan Smith rounded out the Mohawk squad with a 109.

Fostoria was led by Drew Russell (83). Mark Hipsher had a 93. Gaert Hansen shot 95, Rob Downing just avoided the century mark (99) and Adam Omlor shot 103.

Danny Ray topped the H-L golfers with a 93, edging Jeremy Fletcher (94). Sean Harrison shot 98 and Aaron Vay had a 99.

A.J. Howe led Lakota, shooting a 95. Kevin Hammer and Bob Gangwer each shot 98, while David Russell shot 100 and Brian Chaney scored 114.
