Mohawk golfers edge Buckeye Central

SYCAMORE -- Andy Hess may be the fifth man on the Mohawk golf team.

But, he made the difference Monday in the season opener for the Warriors, who defeated Buckeye Central on a tiebreaker after the two teams tied, 188-188, at Mohawk Golf Club.

When a match goes to a tiebreaker, the fifth scores from each team decide the outcome and Hess carded a 51 to win it for coach Bill Markey's team.

Scott Parker was medalist for the Warriors with 41 while Tony Arend had 47 and both Jesse Lehnert and Slone Rhoad each had 50.

Buckeye Central was led by Nathan Triplett with 45, followed by Darren Heydinger (46), Brad Dallas (48) and Eric Gutenberg (49).

Buckeye Central, 4-3, won the jayvee match, 234-239.

Mohawk returns to action Tuesday, hosting New Riegel.
