Panthers blank FHS

SANDUSKY -- First singles player Katie Droll won a set and Katie Schlesselman took her opponent to a first set tie-breaker, but Sandusky St. Mary's sent Fostoria to its third loss in as many matches, 5-0.

"I definitely see some improvement," Fostoria coach Amy Tinsman said. "I think some of the girls are just not used to playing close matches yet. I'm really proud of the way Katie Droll played tonight. We're still working on getting the right doubles combinations, but we've shown a lot of improvement there, too."

Droll lost to Katie Kelly, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Schlesselman fell to Jodi Maczuga, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. The Panthers (1-1) finished the singles sweep when Sarah Merrick topped Courtney Smith, 7-5, 6-0.

In the doubles matches, Tina Chanyaphong and Jessie Dyer of Fostoria fell to Meredith Beverick and Kristen Lilje, 6-0, 6-2, and Alysia Dull and Jenni Blose dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Alyson Seiler and Kelly Groff.

Fostoria goes for its first win of the season when it hosts Toledo Whitmer today.
